How to Pair Motorola H500 and Jabra BT125 Bluetooth Headset with a Playstation 3

One of the features of the PS3 system is the ability to use Bluetooth headsets with your system for online voice communication. For those of you that don’t know how to do this, or are having problems, I describe how to do it.

This guide will help you correctly “pair” either you Motorola H500 or Jabra BT125 bluetooth wireless headset. This guide also works for the Jabra BT125 that comes with the Warhawk package for the PS3.

This guide will work if you have a fully charged headset and are sure the headset is in perfect condition. Also it is recommended that you have the latest PS3 Firmware which can be found and downloaded under settings>>network update. I wrote this guide while my PS3 was in firmware version 2.01 .

I personally believe that these 2 headsets are the best Bluetooth ones for the PS3 system, however between the two, I choose to use my Jabra more often. It stays connected better and it will pair without fail. Sometimes the Motorola one has had trouble but I had no idea what the cause of it was. If you are using this as a buying guide I suggest you get the Jabra because it has never failed for me.Anyway, on to the instructions:

Setup for both of these headsets is the same so the following steps work for both of them:

  1. Make sure the headset is fully charged. When you first plug the headset into it’s charging source the light on it will turn on and stay on. When it is done charging the light will turn off.
  2. Now press and hold the call button on the Motorola or the light on the Jabra until the light is solid (not blinking). It is now in pairing mode and must be in this mode if you ever have to reconnect it again.
  3. If the light is solid, go to your PS3’s XMB ( the main menu ). Now scroll over to Settings>>Accessory Settings>>Register Bluetooth Device. Now click register headset. Click yes and then start scanning, make sure the light for your headset is on and still solid. At this point I suggest you put the headset on you ear.
  4. Once it has detected the headset you will have to put in the headset’s pin. The default headset’s pin is “0000″. So if the headset is brand new that’s what it will be.
  5. Once it has registered you should hear a beep and the headset’s light should now be flashing normally.
  6. Now back in your accessory settings go to Audio Device Settings and for both the input and output devices select the headset you want to use. If the headset shows up greyed out either click Connect(Bluetooth) or press the call button(for the Motorola) or the light(for the Jabra) on the headset Once only.
  7. With the headset now selected speak and if the sound bars light up that means you’re good to go. Now just select OK at the bottom and you have successfully connected your bluetooth headset to your ps3.

Turning the Headset On and Off

To turn either of these headsets on or off hold their call button until the light starts blinking normally, if your PS3 system is on it should automatically connect to it. To turn them off hold the button until the light blinks very fast and then let go.

Notes: Should the headset ever disconnect during a game repeat the “one button press” I mentioned in step 6.

When the light on the headset flashes normally that means it is on. If it is in pairing mode it is solid. And if you are currently using it to communicate it will blink more frequently.

Some headsets can be paired to multiple things such as a phone and a ps3 but it will only work for 1 thing at a time.

The headset must be solid to pair(register) it with the ps3 but once you have done that you only need to turn it on to connect it to the ps3(flashing light).

I’d also like to note that the picture assigned to this article by gameolosophy is neither an H500 or a BT125, that way you’re not confused.

hey, thankz for instructions, i have a question, when i paired my h500, i got everything working right, i paired it, registered it , and i went to audio, everything was right, and i clicked ok, so i went online on rainbow 6 vegas, i made my own room, to see if it worked, it did, it had a volume thing next to my name, so i went to find a match, it took a while but i found one, and then it didn’t have the volume thing next to my name. sooooooooo, i heard online that it could be the controler, but idk, does the h500, have a timer that when it waits long enough it turns off?. or should i change the port of my controler, i don’t know what’s goin on. and i just had it working yesterday.

Remember that if the headset EVER disconnects you can just press the call button once and it should reconnect in 3 seconds.

However, Rainbow Six Vegas has known bluetooth headset issues, headsets disconnect in between games and sometimes have trouble reconnecting.

Normally what happens with mine is that when I select OK the headset will beep which means that the mic and speaker are turning off but it is still connected. So after u click OK u may want to go back and check to make sure it is connected again or maybe twice. If it is then u can go play games. But like I said the games interact with the BT headset differently so it won’t always work.

I hve the Motorola H500 headset too with the PS3 (80Gb), and I had no problems registering my headset with my PS3 and after I turn on my PS3 and get to the main menu, then i turn on my headset and it registers and connects after about 30 seconds. I go to the Audio Options and I can see the little bars lighting up representing my voice…..

But when i go into a game it will work for a bit, then it just stops. If I turn off my headset and then turn it back on…(Are you ready for this???) IT TURNS OFF MY CONTROLLER AND FREEZES MY PS3!!!! I have to manually turn it off.

A few headsets will lock your ps3.. they dont mesh well with the controllers. I have a moto h350 that really messes things up. Take a look at this before you buy your next bluetooth.

Well for those of you that are having problems even after following the directions I think ti could just be a problem with your ps3’s, I’m not completely sure but the actual effectiveness of bluetooth headsets working with a ps3 is random no matter which one you have. And bluetooth headsets arent always going to work perfectly with every game.

If you guys keep having bluetooth problems like where it wont work at all or it freezes your ps3 then I suggest just picking up the Logitech USB PS2/PS3 headset. It’s a wired one but I use it all the time and it’s the best thing I ever used.

GREAT guide. I couldn’t get it to work without it bro.
One thing though… My PS3 is wirelessly connect online, and sometimes when i pair it, the ps3 says that an error occured and that my internet connection was disconnected. WEIRD. i didn’t think that my internet connection and ps3 was connected through bluetooth… is it?
    what can i do?

    Thanks in advance

PS: NBA 2k8 is the best!

bob, I suggest you also try your bluetooth headset with a phone if u can. If it doesnt work with the phone then it’s a problem with your headset but if it does work then maybe it’s just your ps3, but i doubt it…I understand that your problem is that the headset is either not picking up your voice or just not transferring it to the ps3. If you can pair it successfuly and switch the input and output on ur ps3 to headset then it should work but if not then I have no idea what could be wrong =(

i have been using a motorola headset for a few weeks now but one day i decided to play Far Cry 2, and i started to play an online match for a while, but suddenly the headset no longer registers any sound, however i can still hear people talking. I had the same problem with a wired PC USB mic, were i can hear people but they cant hear me. Help?

If you’re having problems with multiple headsets, and especially a USB headset, you might want to check your Audio Device Settings, sounds like the settings defaulted to no input.
