The Wombo Combo is a sacred combo, created by players SilentSpectre and Tang in the game Super Smash Bros. Melee. This combo is used in doubles matches, usually when only one person remains on the opposing team. I plan to write about my thoughts on this great moment of Smash history.

First off, I will describe what the wombo combo is and how it is performed.

The Wombo Combo is performed by using the characters Fox and Captain Falcon in a 2v2 doubles match in the game Super Smash Bros. Melee (not Brawl), uploaded by a YouTube user called “Lumpycpu” on December 8, 2008. The first ever Wombo Combo was used on ‘Zhu’, who was using Fox at the time of the unthinkable.

The following is a list of steps on how to perform the Wombo Combo:

1) Fox – Grabs opponent
2) Captain Falcon – Neutral Air, first kick misses, but second kick hits. (no knockback due to the grab)
3) Fox - Forward throw
4) Captain Falcon – Grab opponent again, but facing same direction as Fox.
5) Captain Falcon – Back throw
6) Fox – Shine, up smash
7) Captain Falcon – Runs off the stage, and uses the Knee of Justice.

Link to the actual video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD_imYhNoQ4

MY THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS:

When I first saw the video in late 2008, I thought to myself: “Oh, another stupid combo that some noobs posted in hopes of getting some views.”

I was wrong.

Not only was the combo a spectacular performance of win and Zhu’s painful demise at the hands of SilentSpectre and Tang, it has revolutionized the doubles (2v2) metagame for Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Before the Wombo Combo video was created, “combos” in 2v2 matches consisted of one person grabbing the opponent and the other person charging up their most powerful attack (usually a smash attack).

But now, many players try to perform unique combos, similar to the Wombo Combo. Of course, usually this type of imitation involves a shitload of failure.

However, there are also very good videos of Wombo Combos as well – just not as good as the original in my opinion.

Besides the performances of the Wombo Combo, the most funny part was the background audio of the players yelling during the combo. The bellows of “WHERE YOU AT?!” and “THAT AIN’T FALCO?!” only assisted the video in being one of the best Smash moments of all time.

But, such great audio shouldn’t be used in just one video. Not long after, a user on YouTube called “PakmanOnCrack” created what he called “Wombo Combo ‘Spoofs’”. These Wombo Combo ‘Spoofs” consisted of using the Wombo Combo audio from the original video and adding it over other videos (which were usually hilarious in its own).
This idea of creating Wombo Combo ’spoofs’ spread around the YouTube community faster than swine flu in Queens, NY.

The most popular Wombo Combo ‘Spoof’ would have to be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr26BIoOFnw
- uploaded by PakmanOnCrack on February 4, 2009.

I actually saw the original video a long time ago before, but adding the Wombo Combo audio over it just made it 9000x funnier.

That’s it for my analysis/thoughts on the legendary Wombo Combo.

What would Brawl be like with these characters?

So Super Smash Bros. Brawl been out for awhile and after so many fights, with so many wins.

I start to wonder. What Brawl could have been.

Nine (should have been) Brawl Characters

Megaman X:

First a little history:

Mega Man X, or Rockman, was built by Dr. Light who sealed him away for 30 years for some stupid reason (oh no robots with free will!)

Too bad Dr. Light died way before then. So what happens next? 100 years later Dr Cain found him, made some androids from him (or known as Reploids) who rebel and so X ends up teaming up with Zero to fight them.

With that out of the way let begin:

Megaman X is in no doubt, the biggest robot fighter.

This guy should have been in brawl for a lot of reasons.

Can copy ability or firepower? Check

Power up that little beam of his for a mega shot? Check

Sidekick named Rush who happens to be a robotic dog? Check

I mean this lil robot would have been perfect for brawl.

His special moves? Easy : Reg. Missile, the copy ability , and his Reg. shot and mega shot.

Hell, he already got a smash attack. Just check out his Nova strike from the X series.

With a character backed up with enough games to go head to head with Mario (with the exception of all those damn Mario party and sport games) , this should have been a no brainer.

Shame on you Capcom and your greediness!

Now that I think about it though, Zero would make for an awesome Assist trophy right?

Knuckles the Echidna

Another easy gimmie. Ok for a quick history:

Knuckles the Echidna is a dread-lock hairdo looking dude first appeared in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3″, when that douchebag Dr. Eggman lied to Knuckles making him believe sonic was the enemy. After the eventual betrayal from Eggman and teaming up with Sonic the Hedgehog to give some well deserve butt-kicking, Knuckles forever became the cool “tough” one in the whole series.

Weapons? Knuckles needs no damn weapons. He got his own damn fist and his own temper that makes Bowser look like a wimp. For crying out loud, he got spikes growing from his gloves! Supposedly he is insanely strong as well, able to break apart boulders with a single jab. Let not forget his trademark ability to climb walls and so forth.

Doesn’t get anymore awesome than that.

His special moves list is a little tougher. He’s got the glide attack (like Peach little stupid umbrella thing) but I have faith that the creators of Brawl can think of something

.

Supposedly, Knuckles powered up by the emerald becomes Hyper knuckles

I don’t know though…I can live with it. I would have to see it in 3-d first though.

That’s okay. He still cool in my eyes at least.

Prince Persia

So once upon a time, somewhere in some land, there was once this little prince of Persia right? He royally screwed up, had everyone in town turned into some kind of monsters, and messed up in general. But no need to worry, citizens of Azad, the clever little prince here got a weapon. He calls it the Dagger of time.

So with that bit of a very, very, shorten history of our prince here let get down to business.

At first look, this guy looks kind of scrawny, even a wimpy, but alas that where you are wrong my friend!

With an almost acrobatic-like moves and with a sadistic sense of humor, this guy will snap you neck faster than you can say “oh crap”

But what makes him special you say? Very simple, his favorite weapon called the Dagger of time.

Oh and did I tell you about his alter ago the Dark prince? Long story short, some of the sand of time got into him, made the evil side of him and the only difference is that he much more brutal with a much funnier sadistic humor.

With the ability to control time and his acrobatic moves combined with a sick sense of humor, he would be a perfect contender in brawl.

His special moves is even harder to make up, because the whole time control thingy would have to be the time dagger slow/stop time be the Smash attack. Instead I can see this guy in the same way as Sheik/Zelda. Except in this case he turn into the Dark Prince. A much stronger but slower character who has a whip instead. Whether or not he damages slowly but surely like in “Two thrones” is up to the Brawl creators. I’m sure they figure something out. Look at Captain Falcon.

Crash Bandicoot

Well, this sure is an oddball choice isn’t it? But believe me, he a force to be reckon with. To start things off, he doesn’t have much of a history. Some villain really did try to evolve a bandicoot a little more and what do you get? Crash Bandicoot.

Oh don’t get me wrong, this particular character is as dumb as rock. In fact I don’t think he has EVER talked in the entire series. But hey, if we can take stupid fighter like Jigglypuff, then all we means we can have Crash!

By now some of you are probably wondering what Crash can really do. Let get one thing straight, he may be legally retarded but by no means is he unarmed. Besides his normal attack (punch punch kick kick..the regular) His special moves would actually be funnier than most. For example I can see his (down+special attack) being a body slam just like in the game.

His smash attack would also be uniquely funny. Remember Aku Aku (that little flying Tiki mask that was your practically best friend in the game)? Well, just like in the game, if he collect more than three of these little guy, he goes all gold chrome and insane like. I mean it the equivalent as Super sonic except on crack. That would totally be his smash attack. He may be stupid, but you best be fearing him buddy.

On a side note once more, Dr. Neo Cortex would be a perfect candidate for an assist trophy, something evil right?

Sora

This one sadden me the most out of all of them. Why? Because this will never ever, ever come about. Why ,Square Enix, wont you let Sora join the roster? Why cant we all just get along?

Now I couldn’t possibly picked a final fantasy character because of how weird it would look on Brawl (I mean no offense., he a good character and all but Snake looks way out of place in Brawl).

Sora and friends are the exception to this rule because of the more laid back kind of tone in the game (well at least compare to final fantasy). But don’t let the laid back tone of the game fool you, Sora is more than capable to dish out the pain in Brawl. Not including his arsenal of magic spells or his summons (which were useless in my opinion), his main weapon and the source of his true power are his keyblades. His story is far more complex for me to mention here even as a short story. That Square Enix has a good habit of making wicked storylines. Look it up on Wikipedia or something..

Right, down to his moves. His moves would be a lot more memorable to fans of the game, using techniques like “Ragnarok”, “Sonic Blade” and finally “Strike Raid”.

What would make me really happy, is his Smash attack. The Final Form.

Now if you ever seen his attacks in this form, you know what to expect of him. I would hate to be the poor fighter who gets hit with this attack. Just go on YouTube or something and look this up. You know exactly what I’ll mean.

On a side note* Kairi and Riku would be awesome assist trophies in brawl.

Note~

These last 4 characters are far less known then the first five. Some people would recognized some, other wont. Nevertheless these character would have made perfect candidate for Brawl.

Hell, if they have Mr. Game and Watch, then they can certainly have these characters.

Viewtiful Joe

If anyone played the game Viewtiful Joe, they would already know how much of a awesome character he is.

He would have to be according to the game he was in. One day, Joe and Silvia (his girlfriend) were watching a movie and what not right? Well for whatever reason an evil villain named Jadow (this whole game is very cliché just so you know) kidnaps Miss Silvia and takes her into a movie. With the help of Captain’s Blue V-Watch (and saying the word “Heshin”) transform Joe into a super hero. Thus this fighter is born.

This guy was made to Brawl in my opinion. He already got down all types of moves. His special moves would have to be the techniques he learns in the game.

His smash attack could have the potential to be one of the best if he was made into Brawl. For example he could use the slow Zoom and the Red Hot One Hundred” on a single enemy or use any of the power he has.

With his trademark “Henshin-a-go-go, baby!”, matrix-like moves combined style no other contender could match..

I could definitely see be the top favorite character for a lot people.

Rayman

You would expect some kind of sill story from this character, but to be honest there really isn’t. Almost all stories (with the exception of one game apparently Ubisoft didn’t give crap about) says that one day he was found by fishermen on a beach by the Sea of Lums. The fact that this guy has absolutely no history doesn’t get to him at all.

His enthusiastic nature to beat the living hell out of anyone with those limbless fists is enough to put him in this list of mine.

Besides the fact that he could punch a jaw out from over 20 feet away, he also has some other useful abilities, namely his hair. With the use of his hair, he could glide and turn into a mini-helicopter! Well there’s two special move right there. He also have different power-ups that could be use in Brawl as special moves for example “metal fist” and “lock Jaw”.

His smash attack would be a tough one to figure out. Maybe something goofy with his ability to changed appearance and outfits (like in Raving Rabbits). Whatever the case this character would be an awesome addition to the Brawl line-up.

Ōkami Amaterasu

This is another unexpected character that could be added to Brawl. First, some background story. Okami Amaterasu is actually a Goddess who has reincarnated into a White Wolf to defeat some evil demon named Orochi.

This Goddess, as her character stands, already earned enough point to be one hell of a female fighter. But how does Okami fight? This is the only character that can match Viewtiful Joe’s style. She has the ability to paint in drawings using the celestial brush to attack or other defensive and useful ability however I can only see this working in the Smash attack. More on that in a bit.

Hey Wii, this is the perfect time to incorporate that damn Wii-mote effectively for once.

Realistically though Okami’s special and regular moves would probably reflect those weapon that she uses that include the mirror, the rosaries, and the sword. It depends on how Brawl once to split it to make it balanced.

Maybe the mirror could be used to deflect projectile or absorb them and restore health like Lucas and Ness? Who knows, this character can have hundred different combinations.

Her smash attack would have to be the Celestial brush. Maybe is a combination of Veil of Mist technique (slows down time) or the Thunderbolt technique. Who knows, maybe all the advance technique one after another on the screen. Whatever the case it would be really cool to look at while your character getting his/her but kicked.

Banjo-Kazooie

Now this character is definitely gonna get some love from old 64’s fans. This classic characters has a simple history; namely there is this bear (Banjo) and this bird (Kazooie) who goes around in different adventures to save the world and save people like most heroes do.

What makes them awesome is that for the majority of the time, this duo almost never leave each other via Banjo wears a backpack with Kazooie in it. Together they perform a number of different moves from running, pecking stomping, and even shooting eggs. This duo special moves is very easy to make namely what I mentioned above already.

Smash attack? Easy, how about the Jinjos thing that allowed Banjo-Kazooie to kill Gruntilda at the end of the game? Yes I know it looks goofy but for christ sakes we got a brown bear wearing a backpack which holds a breegull.

Since this game was made by Rare (who made the original Donkey Kong Country games), it hard to imagine why this character couldn’t be included.

So that’s it. My list of all the character that could had been in Brawl. It a shame but what can you do except send hundreds of letter of begging?
