The Best Sega Dreamcast Rpgs
The Dreamcast was Sega’s final video game system. The Dreamcast had fantastic graphics but the library was limited. There were not a lot of fighting games or RPGs for the system which hurt sales. In spite of a large selection of RPGs, there were several titles that were quite good. Here are some of the best RPGs for the Sega Dreamcast.

Shenmue
Shenmue is more of a simulation game than an RPG. Everything is in real time and you can in stores and even hang out in arcades. If you need to meet someone at a certain time, you must wait until the time in the game is at that specific time. The weather changes throughout the game which adds a unique addition that adds to the experience. Shenmue is a great open exploration game that has gone the extra mile to give you a realistic playing experience.

Skies Of Arcadia
Skies Of Arcadia takes place mostly in dungeons, but the unique aspect of the game is the use of an airship. The airship is used to travel throughout the world and for battling other ship that you encounter. The air encounters and the islands in the sky make this a unique and entertaining RPG.

Grandia II
Grandia II is set in a fantasy world many years after a fantastic battle between two supreme gods. One of the unique things about the game is having the ability of movement in battles. Perfectly timed moves can cancel an opponent’s move. The graphics are top notch and the controls are more than adequate for the functions you need to perform. Quality RPGs are not easy to find on the Sega Dreamcast, but this one is worth seeking out.

Shenmue II
Shenmue II was released in Japan in September of 2001 but was never released in North America until it finally showed up on the XBOX. The events of the story take place immediately after the first one. The locations are much bigger than the first one and there are a lot more battle sequences. There are several characters to help you move the plot and the game moves at a quicker pace than the first installment. Shenmue II has all the best elements of the original and improves on it.

Phantasy Star Online
Phantasy Star Online is an online game released in 2000. Players can choose to be a Ranger, Hunter, or Force. Each one has unique skills that they are adept at. There is an offline mode where gameplay is spread over four areas and you work your way to a final boss. The thing that stands out about this game is the amazing graphics. It uses every bit of the power of the Dreamcast.

Record Of Lodoss War
Record Of Lodoss War is based on an anime story with a big following. The game has the look and feel of Diablo with graphics that are nothing extraordinary. The customization and weapons are what makes this game special. There is a huge assortment of weapons throughout the game. You can equip your character with different items which will change the look of your character. The game doesn’t break any new ground, but the gameplay and collection of items to be found will keep you coming back.

Evolution
Evolution was one of the first RPGs for the Dreamcast and has come under a lot of scrutiny. The graphics are not the best quality of the game but the battles are amazing. The battle sequences are great to look at and have a brilliant execution that surpasses many RPGs of its period. The game does not break any new ground but it has many good qualities that make it worth trying.

Elemental Gear Gimmick
Elemental Gear Gimmick was not designed to impress you with stunning graphics. In fact the graphics are quite crude. The great thing about this game is the involving gameplay, intriguing puzzles, and a very unusual story. You awaken from a machine in ancient ruins and find a strange world to explore. This game has one of the most original storylines to come around in a long time and should be experienced by any RPG fan.

Phantasy Star Online Version 2
Phantasy Star Online Version 2 takes all the elements of the first game and takes them to a new level. The graphics are not a substantial improvement but the expansion on the gameplay will please most game players. The online version will have more interactivity and better battle sequences. This version has turns a good game into a great game and that will get the approval of most RPG players.
