Okamiden Nintendo DS Sequel Okami II
Capcom has finally announced that a sequel to the silent hit Okami will be coming to the Nintendo DS. The Okami two sequel will be titled Okamiden in Japan.
After the release of Okami for the Sony Playstation 2, fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting news on some kind of sequel. Hope for a sequel was lost with the shutdown of Clover Studios by Capcom. Capcom still owned the rights to the Okami game and still could have developed some sort of sequel. Now news has finally hit the Internet that a true sequel to the PS2 game is currently in development.
This time the Okami part 2 game, titled Okamiden in Japan, will not arrive for any next gen consoles. This time the series will come to the portable scene on the Nintendo DS. Why the Nintendo DS? Well if you’ve played the first Okami game, then the control system where you paint, could better be applied for the Nintendo DS.
Some details regarding the new Okami game have been revealed. According to this IGN article, there will be a new wolf in the game called Chibiterasu. It is not know whether or not the wolf from the original Okami will make an appearance in this sequel. The game is in the early stages of development and no artwork from the game has been released from Capcom yet. There also are not any screenshots to see what the game looks like yet either.
From what details that have been revealed, it looks like this will be a true sequel to the original game on the Playstation 2. The company also later released a Nintendo Wii version when fans demanded a Nintendo Wii version. The story in Okamiden will take place in the same world in Okami, several months after the end of the first game. Issun from the first game, will take the new wolf Chibiterasu to a girl named Sakuya for help. Issun and Sakuya are both characters from the original Okami, who will return in this sequel.
Capcom has also revealed that the Nintendo DS stylus will be used with the celestial brush. The celestial brush was used with the PS2 controller on the first version. You will now be able to use the celestial brush with the stylus, and manipulate certain elements in the game. Players will be able to use the DS stylus to create trees and to slash enemies just like in the PS2 game. No release date has been set yet for Okamiden.
