PC Gaming Vs. Console Gaming
In the ever-growing video game industry is it better to game with a console or PC?
In the video game industry one of the biggest disputes is the war between gaming on a PC and gaming on a console such as the Xbox 360. But in the misty haze that is caused by this flame war many become lost and confused as they try to figure out which is best. This article will give you an idea of which gaming platform will best suite your lifestyle.
Consoles
Consoles in comparison to PCs are relatively cheap. You will pay about 150-350 USD for the console and 30-60 USD for games. However, when a console becomes outdated you cannot upgrade it and you will be forced to buy a new console just to keep up. Consoles are more family friendly than PCs, but they do not offer modding support for games and have a less ‘hardcore’ environment.
You may find yourself buying a console if you enjoy casual gaming or you have a smaller budget. If you have a family and you want to game with your children (10 or younger) you will want to buy the Wii by Nintendo. The Wii is currently listed at about 150 USD and is the cheapest big name console you will find. It is great for the family environment because the majority of listed titles are rated E or E10+.
If you want a more hardcore gaming experience you may turn to the Xbox 360 by Microsoft or the Playstation 3 by Sony. The Xbox 360 is listed at about 250 USD while you will find yourself dropping 350 USD to pick up the Playstation 3. However, while the Playstation 3 is more expensive it does not have the 60 USD yearly fee that Microsoft charges for an online play membership. Both consoles have almost the same games (with the exception of a few titles) and the majority of these games are rated T or M.
Personal Computers
If you want to be able to run the games that a console can run you will be forced to spend about 1000 USD for the initial purchase of your PC. However, unlike consoles, if your computer becomes outdated (about once every 1-5 years) you can spend as little as 100 USD to catch up. Unlike consoles, the majority of games for PCs are purchased on online marketplaces like Valve’s Steam marketplace. This means that it is literally impossible to lose, break, or corrupt the game. There are a majority of companies and games that not only support, but encourage people to modify their games. As well as this there are an uncountable amount of games that are PC exclusive such as Terraria. This means that if you want a varied gaming experience, then PC gaming is for you. While it may be more costly than consoles, you’ll get more bang for your buck.
