How Much Will Pspgo Affect Gaming Stores?

How is a no disc console going to affect a store that sells video games.

With the arrival of sony’s latest console, the PSPgo the first handheld no disc console, how will stores be able to cope with this?

Many stores have rejected the PSPgo and will not sell it as it will affect all PSP game sales in stores yet will increase console and acsessory sale yet this will never be as much sales as with PSP games. Some Australian stores have accepted the PSPgo and are making record sales such as:

  • JB Hi-Fi
  • Dicksmith
  • Big W
  • GAME
  • and Wow

All game sales for PSPgo is now online on sony’s Playstation Store which needs a wireless internet connection which puts more downsides on the PSPgo.

In my opinion Sony should still release games to stores but in a way for PSPgo to play it such ideas could be:

  • An external disc drive for PSPgo
  • Games at stores now being just a Playstation store game code for download of the game purchased (like geting a gift card that allows you to download that game you purchased)
