Playstation 3, Your Commercials are Destroying My Christmas!
How successful commercials mean failure for us mere humans this holiday season.

Yes, that’s right. Playstation 3’s new marketing campaign is creating holiday headaches for women across the country… heck, maybe even across the world!
Playstation 3 has put out wonderful new television ads – so wonderful, it has some of us thinking this thing is the new nirvana. A gaming system that not only plays games, but connects to the internet… AND will download movies! This is quickly becoming the gift of choice for thousands of people everywhere… especially men.
So when Christmas time rolls around and gifts are being ripped opened… my husband, your boyfriend, her step-son, etc will be horribly disappointed if they see anything but a Playstation 3 from Santa.
And who can blame these guys?! I mean, just take a look at the ada. Having what appears to be a pretty neat product can only get you so far without a marketing campaign to back it up. Here is the specific commercial that is now making my husband ask for (or rather, demand) a Playstation 3 for Christmas.
But of course, Playstation couldn’t just be satisfied with that…with an ad that hits right at the heart of adult men. It had to try and sucker us women into their product, too.
These spots are fabulous for many reasons:
- First, they are relateable. Each of the spots in their campaign portrays an average boyfriend, girlfriend, father, etc. And they’re all likable – especially the Playstation 3 guy. Who wouldn’t want to take him out for a beer?
- Plus these spots don’t over-sell… they’re not “in your face”. These ads give us 30 humorous seconds and oh, by the way… are also trying to sell us something.
- These spots are fun, quirky… making people think the product is also fun and quirky.
Now here’s a spot in their new campaign that I have not yet seen on TV.
And finally, here’s the Playstation 3 commercial that took a subtle tactic to advertise its price.

Well tell your boyfriend you’ll split it with him. Renting movies off the PSN is the same price as blockbuster, except you don’t have to spend money on gas to get there, and return it.
Just remember to start downloading the movie before hand, unless you have quick internet (> 15mbps)

These ads are brilliant, and Kevin Butler is hilarious. Sony is really pulling out the stops (only took them 2 1/2 years). They are out for blood,and wont be happy until 360 is nothing but a stain on the floor. I love coporate competition, I ALWAYS win!

If you can’t afford it or something, I’m sure he won’t be disappointed, but if your problem is that the Playstation 3 exists and that men want it, then I’m afraid your woes aren’t soon to end. The ad that you said he’s most into depicts a woman who is supportive her man’s gaming interest. This indicates that he is searching for a deeper connection with you. He wants you to take an interest in his interests.
Put down the keyboard and go buy him the freaking Playstation 3. When he gets it, graciously accept the affection he lavishes upon you. Be a good wife.

meh, i dont have to worry about that here in oz its a freaking ghost town.
im starting to think sony computer entertainment Australia does not exist, i hope they are not paying people to do adds because, well there not doing there job.
im scared to turn on the tv now (not literally obviously) because i cant do so without being bombarded buy xbox 360 adds.
just for halo wars alone i saw like 50+ adds within the month, killzone 2, infamous, uncharted 2, ratchet and clank a crack in time.
for all those ive seen probably 5.
since the slims launch ive seen like 4 or so adds, and 2 of those were from Harvey Norman.
since the psp gos launch ive seen like 2 adds.
im really starting to think sony does not want us buying there games.
1 theres no advertisement.
2 we get the games weeks if not months after everyone else.
3 we pay almost double what the US pays for each game.
4 half the time we dont even get the game, like the GOW collection, or demon souls.
they want your 500 bucks for the console, but when it comes to giving you the content there nowhere to be found.
Lemon –> I can’t understand why people thought Sony messed up with marketing in the last 2 years…the PS3 was at a price point where only the people that knew about it, wanted it and probably purchased it where gonna buy it…They would have wasted millions on ad campaigns for a few thousand extra subscribers….heard of early adopters…exactly the phase they were in…now they have a respectable game library, AAA exclusives launching, new price point, great media features to rival competitors and then everything else…so makes sense with the revision hardware and new price piont to re-brand and kick off a marketing campaign for mass market penetration…

I can’t believe that any gamer that can tell that motion controls are a fad, and has been a fad since Dance Dance Revolution came out in 1998, would buy into Natal, seeing as it’s an over glorified EyeToy. I’ll be enjoying Killzone 2’s, Uncharted 2’s, MGS4’s and LittleBigPlanet’s surpurb online, unrivaled graphics, and introduction of new, fun, and innovative ideas as well as so many other games it would take me nearly half an hour to list the exclusives for the rest of 2009, 2010, and most likely until the next generation of consoles hits the market. Even then, I would probably still play each brilliant game from time to time. @ PS3 SUCKS – Last time i checked it was the Breakbox 360 that was missing the internet browser, not the PS3. Retard, do your research next time.
Also, streaming movies at 1080p? LOL, took them long enough to catch up, too bad they STILL can’t play Blu – Ray movies OR have their games run in native HD. Which would be the exact reason that 360’s graphics look like complete garbage.
Xbox LIVE is full of little morons like you who can’t afford a PS3 so they resort to shouting racial abuse and typing in caps lock at the rest of the people on there, i’m damn glad i’m not part of that. These commercials remind me of the “Nintendon’t” commercials that Sega poured down our throats… Look at where Sega is now!
Riiiiight, I also forgot to mention that while Xbox LIVE members are incapable of affording a PS3, they still pay for membership and, wait for it… wait for it… Oh wait, they don’t need the WiFi adapter because less than 40% of Americans with Internet don’t USE wireless Internet!

Hi everyone, listen, i must apologise for my idiot son making a complete douchebag out of himself here. The reason he acts out this way is that he has no friends and his dad forces him to swallow things that he doesn’t always want to so he calls people names and tries hard to make everyone else feel as hurt and lonely as he does. It’s not his fault, really. Me and his father went through this “Addiction” phaze where we had sex non – stop for like 3 weeks and then – poof! I got pregnant, i wish i had more notice or i may have been able to kick my crystal meth addiction before his birthdate………it also probably didn’t help that i was standing up when i gave birth and so the first thing that happened was he shot down head – first onto the cold hospital floor.
Listen, he had nightmares last night and was up all night screaming, i guess he’s just nervous about his arranged marriage to his sister, so could everyone please be extra nice to him? I’m sure he doesn’t mean to make an assclown out of himself but living in a trailer park with a bunch of inbred hicks has this kind of affect on people.

As funny as it may seem, some people get their kicks stomping on a dream. Fanboys from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft: We should stop fighting amongst ourselves and complain to the developers and companies that make games, if complaining at all.
