Raise PSP’s (Playstation Portable) Battery Life
Fed up on your battery letting you down? Follow these simple steps to stop it.
As you know the PSP’s stock batteries last usually between 5-6 hours. However, you can extend the amount of time the battery keeps its charge by being energy conscious. Here are some tips that will allow the battery to last longer:
- Set the screen’s brightness light to the lowest (darkest) setting you are able to comfortably play at. The brighter the LCD the more battery power it uses.
- If you have the headphones use them. The speakers on the PSP generally use more power than any normal set of headphones.
- Only have UMD disks inserted when you want to play the game. Leaving the disk in will cause the PSP to activate the drive if you visit the [Game] menu, which wastes power.
- If you use the WiFi and the router is near you set the WLAN Power Save setting to ‘On’ by going to [Setting] > Power Save Settings > WLAN Power Save.
- Turn off the WLAN switch when you aren’t using it.
- If you are listening to music and you aren’t looking at the screen. Hold the Display button in until the screen turns off.
- Set the UMD Auto-Start feature to off by going to [Setting] > System Settings > UMD Auto-Start.
- Keep the PSP charger plugged in a power outlet whenever it is possible. This keeps the battery from being used as often, which helps keep the battery in good health.
If you remain attentive to the energy your PSP is using and follow these tips, then you should make the battery last a few more hours, depending on what you are doing with it. Remember that anytime WiFi or the UMD drive are being used that is when the system is draining the battery the fastest.
If none of the above help you obtain the amount of play time you desire, then perhaps you should look into purchasing Sony’s official extended battery which is 2200mAh of stored juice (as opposed to the 1200mAh battery that comes with the newer model PSPs). However, since it holds 45% more juice the battery itself is much larger than the stock slim battery. Sony’s solution was to sell battery covers that would help house the larger batteries. Here is a list of the available colors for the battery covers and links of where you can purchase them.
- Piano Black
- Ice Silver
- Ceramic White
- Mystic Silver
- Pearl White
