Sega Genesis Review: Kick Boxing

A kickboxing game.

The Kick Boxing, yes, THE Kick Boxing, is a game that was released for the Sega Genesis many ions ago. The game is just what you would imagine it to be… kick boxing! Let’s delve into this shall we?

The game starts you out on a title menu in which your boxer is portrayed on the left, and his opponent on the right. The game does a good job of creating a sense of ownership to your kick boxer. You can change his name, his face, and a few other minor details. You can also choose the number of rounds per fight, and you can accumulate money over the course of your career. If you’re lucky, you’ll get into the top money rankings and earn a championship.

All of this is great stuff outside of the gameplay. The problem is that the gameplay itself is unresponsive and terrible. The Kick Boxing sports painfully sluggish controls, and this issue renders you unable to throw hardly anything that you intend to. It becomes a button mashing mess soon after the initial bell and, unfortunately, you won’t want to play the game long enough to make a lucrative kick boxing career out of this underachieving game for the Genesis.

I will be bringing more Sega reviews soon. Hopefully I will find some gems! Please feel free to leave comments and feedback! I am always open to suggestions and criticism! ;)
