Why Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Sucks

It’s been three years now since Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess was released by Nintendo. It was first released for the Nintendo Wii, and then a few weeks later for the Gamecube. Read why, in my opinion, Twilight Princess sucks.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Legend Of Zelda fan, and there are some things great about Twilight Princess. But overall, after finishing this Nintendo game, I was left with the feeling that “Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess Sucks!”. First of all let me say that I’ve been a fan since the original was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System way back more than twenty years ago. Every Legend Of Zelda game was awesome, until the disappointing announcement with the Gamecube Zelda game.

The world was shocked when Nintendo released the cartoon pics for their next Legend Of Zelda incarnation. I too was very disappointed, when I had high expectations after the space world pics. But, I gave the Wind Waker a fair chance. I can remember way back in 2002 when Nintendo was holding “Cube Club” events all across the United States. It was here that Nintendo fans could try out the Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker for the first time. One Cube Club event was held near Indianapolis, Indiana so I was lucky enough to go to the event.

Anyway, I was quite surprised by the feeling Wind Waker had. Even though Nintendo decided to go with cel shaded graphics, the classic Legend Of Zelda gameplay was intact. Many people still didn’t like the Wind Waker, but I was one of them that did like it. Then came the announcement that Legend Of Zelda fans had been waiting for. Another Zelda would be released for the Nintendo Gamecube and for the Nintendo Wii, with the same type of graphics that the Nintendo 64 games had, only better.

Right from the start of the promoting of Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess, there were huge and high hopes for this game. Even on the back of the box after purchasing the game, it says that this is the biggest Legend Of Zelda adventure of all time. Most Nintendo fans also though this would be the all time best Legend Of Zelda game ever, even surpassing the quest of Ocarina Of Time. After playing through this game, I can definitely say that this Legend Of Zelda game wasn’t the best. Maybe no Legend Of Zelda game will surpass Ocarina Of Time.

Why does the Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess suck so much? I have a number of issues with Twilight Princess. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of good things about this game, but there are more things that make this game suck. One of the first problems I had with this Legend Of Zelda game was Hyrule Castle and the people in the town. Remember in Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time, the bustling town just before Hyrule Castle? There were tons of people throughout the area, and each one had something interesting to say.

The characters all has something to add about what was happening in Hyrule, and had a lot to talk about to Link. What about Hyrule Castle in Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess? There is very little text and the characters have nothing at all interesting to say. It’s like the developers didn’t put a lot of thought into the characters of the market in Hyrule Castle. The people there have no depth at all. It’s just plain boring. Why didn’t they put more time into developing the people of the town like in Ocarina Of Time?

Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess also sucks because the word “Triforce” is never used in the entire game. Come on, Nintendo. This Legend Of Zelda game takes place in Hyrule, yet the word “Triforce” is never used anywhere in the text. Instead, the player is left guess what really happens with the Triforce of Power, Wisdom and Courage in the game. In one of the early cinema scene in the game, Zelda sends her “power” or “energy” to Midna but its never clearly stated what this power is.

The Triforce isn’t physically shown, and the it isn’t talked about between the characters. Throughout this whole Legend Of Zelda game, the player is left wondering and guessing as to what has happened to the Triforce. It’s hard to believe the developers could be so careless as to leave out the Triforce in this Legend Of Zelda game. Yes, the Triforce is shown in one cinema scene, but the actual word “Triforce” is still never said, even during that scene. Why are you being so shady about the Triforce in Zelda now, huh Nintendo?

After all, the Triforce was physically shown throughout the Wind Waker and it was also talked about between the characters. But now in Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess, this has been radically changed. So what other problems do I have with Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess?

The flow of the story. In the Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time, after each dungeon, there was a lengthy cinema scene with Link and the other characters. In Twilight Princess, for about four or five dungeons, the entire story takes a freeze. After spending four or five hours in a dungeon, Midna gives Link two or three sentences, and that’s it. There is no more development in the characters or story. There should have been more character development, more story, along with longer cinema scenes after completing the last four or five dungeons.

This also happened when encountering the Temple Of Time in Twilight Princess. I thought there would have been some talk about the history or some kind of link to the Ocarina Of Time, but there was absolutely nothing. The story in the game was still frozen at this point and wasn’t continuing to develop. This would have been the perfect opportunity to have some find of nostalgia from Ocarina Of Time. But Midna and Link said absolutely nothing about the Temple Of Time and its history, when you go through that part. What a let down for hard core Legend Of Zelda fans.

Is there anything else why Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess sucks? I was in shock when listening to the part of the overworld music with the bizarre singing. Weren’t you thinking that this was the girl with the red hair from the ranch in Ocarina Of Time? It sounds like Malon singing from Ocarina Of Time, but this girl is not even present in this game. She isn’t even mentioned in Twilight Princess, yet they have her singing in the over world music in this game. Maybe its suppose to be some nostalgia for Ocarina Of Time fans, but it doesn’t really fit right in the game. They could have done better with something at the Temple Of Time, but nothing was there.

This is all of my Twilight Princess sucks rant. This game was a huge game, and the best part of this Legend Of Zelda game is the dungeons. I absolutely loved all of the dungeons and items in this Zelda game. The dungeons here definitely are the best Legend Of Zelda dungeons of all time. The dungeons are huge and massive compared to the past games, and the new items make playing this Legend Of Zelda game feel new. If only they would have put more “depth” into the story it would have been the best one of all time. The character of Midna was great, but the story flat lined for four or five dungeons which was a disappointment.

Now after three years, there are no screenshots or news of a new Zelda title, except for one piece of artwork from E3 2009. So what will happen with the new Legend Of Zelda title for the Nintendo Wii? Who knows, but with such little information it probably will not be released for another year or two. At the earliest, Nintendo might release the next Legend Of Zelda during the holiday season of 2010. Lets hope they learn the mistakes and the greatness of their past games, and make the best Legend Of Zelda game of all time.

you state some good points, but if you look over the story-line, it is still the third best wii game, right under galaxy and metriod prime trilogy
