How to Beat Barba in Zelda II Adventure of Link

Fighting Barba in Zelda 2 Adventure of Link can be a difficult task. So how do you beat Barba in Zelda 2? You will need to make use of your spells before you encounter the boss. Just before you enter the boss room, use the jump spell and the shield spell. These two spells are essential in winning this boss fight. The jump spell will actually help you damage the boss. And the shield spell will help you live longer through the battle.

Now another third spell can help you in the game, but can be optional on your part. If you use the reflect spell, this can help dodge the fire that Barba sends to link. You might want to opt not using this spell, and save the rest of your magic points for refilling your life. The dragon Barba will probably cause a lot of life damage to you, even with using the shield spell, so it might be more wise to save your magic points for using it with life.

One strategy you can use against the boss, is to wait on the middle platform. If you stay on the middle platform there is a good chance that he will pop up from either side of you. When he does, and he is almost all the way out, jump over the the other side while using your downward thrust sword technique. If you get close enough to the head of Barba, you will damage him. Many times when doing this you will also lose some life.

This is why it is a good idea to save some of your magic points for the life spell. You really need to use the jump and shield spell for this battle. Without the jump spell, it is almost impossible to reach the head of Barba. The head is the only place where you can inflict damage. If you time your jumps right, you can get two hits in. Jump just before he breathes fire, while using your downward thrust. Then do it again after you land on the other platform.

Another way to defeat Barba is to jump up, but not all the way over to another platform. You are also not going to use the downward thrust sword technique here either. When Barba rises from the lava, jump up real close to him and strike you sword at his head before he breathes fire. You should be able to put one hit on him. Now he is going to breathe fire, so you will need to jump up and a little back from the fire. Don’t jump too out of the way or you will fall into the lava and die.

Jump up and back a little, and you should dodge his fire. Even if you get damaged yourself by the fire, you can use your life spell later to fill up your life. After he breathes the fire, you have another opportunity to strike him with your sword. Quickly get close to the edge of the platform and jump up and strike your sword. Don’t get too close to the edge, but just close enough to strike him with your sword. You can combine these two techniques together.

First you could just jump up and strike. Then avoid the fire breathe. Then you could jump over to another platform and use your downward thrust technique. Keep doing this enough times and you will defeat him.
