How to Prevent The Rrod on Your Xbox 360

This guide will cover ways on preventing the fatal Red Ring of Death on your Xbox 360. A guide that should be reviewed by all Xbox 360 owners.

The Red Ring of Death (RRoD) is something that is feared by many Xbox 360 users. The main cause of the RRoD is overheating, so this guide will give you tips that every Xbox owner should cherrish.

Don’t leave it on anything that can easily overheat!: Never leave your Xbox 360 on something that you know can easily overheat such as a Blanket, pillows etc. These objects easily absorb the heat and will just cause it to build up, a very common way of overheating which can lead to the RRoD if it is left long enough. It isn’t advised to leave it on your carpet if it is very ‘wooly’ (the carpet) because this can also cause it to overheat, so be cautious.

Don’t put it in a box!: It sounds stupid, but alot of people will put it into a boxed area without knowing. This area could be a DVD/Blu Ray player slot on your cabinet that you could fit your Xbox in, or it could be somewhere inside your cabinet to save space. Well that is NOT a good idea. This is because the heat in the space will just build up, if you need to put it in either place because you need it out of the way put it in the DVD slot. This is ONLY if the slot has no backing. If it has backing do NOT put it in there. This will serve the same purpose as if it were boxed in, the heat will just circulate around the system and eventually overheat it.

Know where the FAN is!: The fan on the Xbox 360 is located at the BACK of the console. NEVER have something blocking this fan, it needs to have alot of space behind it to help circulate the air. My Xbox has only ever overheated once in nearly 4 years now, this was because I had gone against this rule and the previous one. I had it boxed into my cabinet which was blocked off from everything. The only way to get it out was to open the front glass, so eventually all the heat was just circulating in the small box, and the Xbox said Enough. I originally thought I had the RRoD and my heart just stopped. If you have never had the RRoD you definately need to take these tips and use them, because it is one of the things all 360 Gamers HATE. (I have never had it boxed in again, and always have used these tips, and never have had another overheating or the fatal RRoD)

Keep it clear of all objects: Just make sure that you have nothing ontop of your Xbox or surrounding it, it is best to give it an even amount of space around it so the air can successfully circulate.

Thanks for the great article and I do have one thing to add…XBox doesn’t not support the external coolers that are not made by them so if you do get the RROD don’t let them know that you had one on it!!
