Media Sharing on the Xbox360

A step by step guide to media sharing on Xbox.

Hey,

I use the 360’s Media Sharing function all the time. It’s a lot easier than putting my videos on a portable device like i used to.

All i can say,

1)Put your 360 on the dashboard, and return to your Laptop/Computer..

2)Open Media Player

3)In the drop down box for “Library”, click on ‘Media Sharing’.

4)You should see a little 360 icon in the little white box.

5)Click “Share My Media To…” and allow the Xbox 360 to load.

6)Click Apply, then OK, and you should be done.

Q&A

Why can’t i see my xbox in the Media Sharing box?

Another thing that should be noted, is that your computer/laptop shouldn’t be that far away from the 360. Lets say, at least in the same room. Although its wireless, it has the same ability as Bluetooth, meaning you can’t go too far away from each other.

I’ve connected my 360 to my laptop, but i can’t find any videos?

This one, i have to admit myself is a bit obvious. This goes for all media types. If you want to watch a movie, you have to make sure its in the ‘My Videos’ folder. The same applies for Photos (My Pictures), and Songs (My Music).

What media types can I watch on my 360?

Well, the xbox is a bit strange like this.. Basically, if you have a portable device, anything you download from the PSP Format Cinema (cheap plug), will work on your xbox. Meaning if you put an MP4 Codec video on your psp, and hooked it up with a USB cable to your 360, you’d be able to watch it. But as far as watching videos from your MyVideos, the only formats i know that work are basic video formats you can download from the Internet works fine. WMV and AVI are the only two i know for sure that works.

Thanks for Reading.
