Minecraft on Xbox

Information about the upcoming XBLA port.

What is Minecraft?

For those of you living under a block of stone, Minecraft is a popular “indie” title developed by Markus Persson and his team at Mojang that involves building with blocks, much like LEGOs. The general idea of the game is to survive during the day and night cycles, whilst building your own creations and being creative in between. It has gained a massive cult following since it’s Alpha launch in 2009 to it’s official launch of November 18th on PC, and Oct. 7th and November 17th for Android and iOS devices, respectively.

Due to Minecraft’s huge popularity, many companies have already attempted to create their own “Minecrafts” for Xbox already, such as FortressCraft. While Markus (aka Notch) hasn’t taken any legal action toward these copies, it is apparent that the reason the Xbox version must finally come is so that there will be the most definitive experience on Xbox possible. The Xbox version will be equipped to come with cross-platform capability, Kinect support, split screen, and Xbox achievements. It is expected to launch through the Xbox Live Arcade in Q2 2012.
