The Nextbox

After the official launch of the Xbox 360 on the 2nd of December, 2005, we were all stunned by its capabilities and graphics. But could you imagine a successor of the Xbox 360?

Chris Lewis, Microsoft, has said that the company is already enduring the task of creating the next-generation console because “we have to.” He has also said that “You can’t sit back on your laurels in this business – the consumer won’t let you, the developers certainly won’t let us. So that’s happening right now.”

Much information, though, has not been released concerning this next-generation console. One thing that is nearly for sure is that this Xbox will not be named Xbox 3. This is because the Xbox 360 was not named Xbox 2 because they didn’t want consumers to think they were numerically inferior to the PS3. So what will they call the Xbox 360 2; Xbox 720, Xbox 1080 or even Xbox 2160?

There has however been a significant statement about the timeframe. Supposedly, the next Xbox will arrive in a decade, possibly 2011 or 2012. Waiting perhaps three or four years for this Xbox may wipe the smile off your face, but Microsoft want to bag as much money to recoup the $1.26 billion it spent developing the Xbox 360.

Also expected is a new, or additional, iteration of its tremendously successful Xbox Live platform. This will make gaming over the internet an experience that cannot be missed. In addition to this, the next Xbox has been rumoured to have even more realistic graphics and great speeds needed to run such high-quality games.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has not released any information encircled around any new titles for this Xbox, although a mole working in Microsoft has reported that a secret first party sequel is already being worked on for the next Xbox console. According to the magazine, the game was originally planned for the Xbox 360, but was recently moved over to the next Xbox console.

It’s going to be a few years wait for all you Xbox fans in the world, so if I were you, I would go and bag myself one of those Xbox 360’s, as you might have to wait a long time for the next Xbox.
