The Xbox 360: Its Ups and Downs
The positive and not so positive of the 360.
When my husband said that he was going to get an Xbox 360, the first question that came to my mind was how we were going to afford it. Even after the drop in price to $120.00 for the arcade system, I was still adding up sixty dollar games in my head and wondering how much money I was going to be dishing out for Xbox Live.
It turned out to be not as bad as I had feared, since my husband is used to living on a small budget and found most of his games at the pawn shop. I was definitely relieved. But that was before the thing quit.
I have learned that this “red ring of death” and red light in port 4 is very common. (And as of the last time my husband sent his in, these two ailments are still covered regardless of warranty) It disgusts me, and my husband, who has had to send his Xbox 360 in to Microsoft two times. What kind of hardware are they making? It obviously isn’t that good. Every gaming magazine that I find has some sort of complaint about Microsoft’s hardware concerning the 360. It seems to me that they are losing money. Would it not be more profitable to wait another year and come out with a system that actually works?
Not that the 360 is completely horrible. I absolutely love the graphics. They have some of the most awesome games, my personal favorite being Resident Evil 5 right now. The gameplay is amazing… and I have to admit that I love being able to get on Xbox Live and shoot it up on Call of Duty.
But does the good outweigh the bad? Is the 360 worth it? That’s not for me to judge, but I will tell you one thing: if our Xbox quits one more time, we are buying a PS3.
