A Rounded Oblivion Character
Do you want to have a character that is able to both pick locks easily and cast powerful spells? Sounds like you need a balanced character.
What is the best character for Oblivion? Well, it depends on what you are looking for. Since oblivion is an open world RPG, there are many paths that you can take. Are you a Gladiator, fighting in the arena for the glory of fame? Or perhaps a magician, weaving powerful spells to bring the dead back as your servants? You might even be an assassin, using your stealth and powerful weapons to bring swift death upon your foes. If you lean towards one specific type, then this article is not for you, and you would be better off making your own class with specific benefits. However, if you are looking for a balanced class that can be able to all these things, then by all means read on.
This guide leans somewhat towards a martial class. This is because I find it somewhat easier to level up my stealth and magic later in the game.
Alright, let’s begin.
The race doesn’t matter all that much, but I would suggest a Nord because of their greater power “Woad”. When choosing a sign, choose one with passive powers, because later in the game you will find items that will surpass its powers greatly. I suggest getting a birth sign that boosts either your health or magicka. Now we get to the class. The class is the most important part of your character, because it defines what you are going to do for the rest of the time playing that character. For your focus, choose melee. For the two attributes, choose any two you want, but I would choose Endurance and Restoration, for the simple fact that you will live longer in a harder fight. With one more screen, you are almost done, yet the step ahead is the hardest
Finally, you have reached the skills page. This is where the meat of your character is. Instead of just choosing the skills you want however, try to get a balance of skills that you won’t want to use, and skills that can be leveled easily. First off, you want one skill from each attribute. However, you want skills that you don’t use very often, but can level easily as well. For instance, if you like to use swords, pick the blunt skill, so you won’t level accidentally from overuse of one skill. However, you also want skills that are somewhat easy to level, such as acrobatics, so that when you are ready to up your abilities, you can do so easily.
This only starts you out with a balanced character. In order to keep your character balanced, the you need to spend time leveling each skill.
