Skyrim; Leveling a Mage’s Way
A guide on how to play as a mage in Skyrim.
The elder scrolls V: Skyrim has many ways to be played. The most fun way to my opinion is just playing as a mage. I do it at any way, and, mainly, mages have huge power but are very vulnerable. In Skyrim, this is not very different. A mages build should be using destruction, but also light armor; wearing a set of elven armor with high “light armor” skill might just save your live! The species you should be must be picked by you, but i personally prefer dunmer due to their 50% fire resistance. Get your armor enchanted with frost resistance and you are distance and dragon-proof. The player starts off with a few magic spells which are actually quite strong, once you know how to use them. I personally always enjoy using fire spells the most, but you should truly look for yourself. Always have some of the other type spells ready as well, shock spells are great for use versus other mages, because they drain magicka, fire is just mainly power, and the use of it in Skyrim, the province of nords, who are frost resistant, might be nice. Ice spells are mainly usable versus dragons and warriors, because they drain stamina. You should right away start leveling your destruction, because it’s very important to get it high quickly. When you level, never get more stamina, for a mage, it’s plain useless. Put 2/3rd on magicka and 1/3rd on health. Learning a few healing spells is always usefull, and make sure you always take some magicka recharge potions, because mage vs dragon is quite hard when you’re out of magicka. Then, i must advise you to, first get to be a dark brotherhood member, eliminate a lot of targets so you get a lot of money, and then go to the college of Winterhold, the magic school in the north-east. There you can buy spells and get 5 levels training per total level you gain(for a little price) in any magic skill you want to. I personally used it to level my destruction to 90. You can train destruction at Wuunferth the unliving, at the palace of kings in windhelm(adept), Sybille stentor, at the blue palace in Solitude(expert), and at Faralda in the College of Winterhold(master). Good luck.
