Call of Duty 2: Big Red One

A review on the first-person shooter game, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, second in the Call of Duty series, like the name indicates.

Call of Duty 2: Big Red One is a first person shooter released for Xbox 360 in November 2005 as well as for PC in October 2005. It was developped by Infinity Ward and released by Activision. Like Call of Duty and Call of Duty: Finest hour (to know the difference, please read my following articles), the story is set during the Second World War. When it was released, COD2 met a very good public reaction, over 250 000 copies having been sold in the first week after it’s release.

Gameplay

The campaign in Big Red One is told from four points of view: a Red Army soldier, two British Army soldiers and one United States Army soldier. In contrast with the previous Call of Duty games and like the following Call of Duty games, players can only hold two weapons at a time, including a sidearm. In previous games, people could hold two major weapons and one small one. Furthermore, players are give a pair of binoculars in order to scout out the map before actually going yourself. This is very useful for example in a level where you have to lead artillery fire to protect a town from invasion.

Now, for multiplayer, when playing on a PC, people can play on servers containing up to 64 people at once whereas on the Xbox 360 the limit is 8 players. When playing multiplayer yet not online on the Xbox 360, four characters can be used. In this video-game there are 13 multiplayer maps plus the expancion packs (for more information on every expansion pack in every Call of Duty game, please read my following articles). Now, contrarily to other Call of Duty games (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for instance), the players characters change depending on the map you chose going from American to Soviet to British to German soldiers. The game modes for multiplayer are the same as Call of Duty 4; deathmatch, team deathmatch, search and destroy, capture the flag and headquarters.
