Call of Duty 5: World at War Review
A review on the game, COD5: World at War.
Call of Duty 5: World at War was released in November 2008, more precisely on the 11th for north America, 12th for Australia and Asia and on the 14th for Europe. The game was released for PC, Wii, PS3, PS2, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS: the game has minor differences throughout the consoles (especially on the DS and the PS2) which I will write about in an upcoming article. This video-game depicts World War 2: it involves the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, the United States and the Empire of Japan. The game is based on historical battles from WW2 and is shown from the points of view of a US Marine and a Red Army soldier.

Gameplay
For those who haven’t played any the video-games in the Call of Duty series, I will explain the gameplay. First of all, there is the campaign. In it, you have a series of missions which you have to complete in order to get some unlockables in the game and which can be played on different difficulties. Throughout these missions, the players are taken into WW2 and fight alongside AI-controlled allies who will help you get through your tasks. A minor difference when the campaign from COD5 is compared to the previous Call of Duty’s campaigns is the fact that the missions and objectives can be completed in different ways whereas in previous games, the mission always finished the same way. In contrast with COD4, World at War includes a Multiplayer coop mode in which up to two players on one console or four players online play the missions of which I talked previously.
Here is an example of multiplayer Co-op.
Next there is the Multiplayer mode, which is the same as in Call of Duty 4. Up to four players can play on one console and up to 16 people can play online in multiplayer battles (such as team deatchmatch, deatmatch, etc…) on 13 different maps plus the map packs (PC, Xbox and PS3 only) and the downloadable content. When playing online, players gain experience and go through levels. Once level 65 is reached, people have the “prestige” option, which makes the player go back to level 1. However, prestige also gives players an extra weapon slot and a new symbol. Prestige can be done 10 times, each time giving you a new slot and a new symbol (more respected by other players).
Downloadable content
Several uptades for COD5 have been made since the game was released and new multiplayer maps were released. Some of these maps are Makin Day, Knee Deep and U-Bahn. Makin Day came with an update for World at War which fixed bugs and glitches for multiplayer mode.
I hope you have enjoyed this article. If so, please read the following reviews I will publish as soon as I can about other Call of Duty games and other FPS games (first-person shooter for those who don’t know the expression).
