Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Let The Battle Commence
Call of Duty have always been one of the leading first person shooters. Fast, slick and smooth game play has always keep them ahead of their many rival games such as Rainbow Six and “Medal of Honour. And with the continuous battle of Call of Duty vs. Halo still rages onwards and the release of “Halo: ODST’, just a few weeks before Modern Warfare 2, will only add to this. But will Modern Warfare be able to take the number one spot and defend it?
The original Modern Warfare game was a huge success, which lead to great exceptions for the next game in the series, ‘Call of Duty: World at War’. However even today a huge number of players still prefer the old Modern Warfare over the new World at War game. Maybe this its because WW2 games have been done so many time before, that players are just sick of them and crave for something new and interesting. Though will every growing expectations be matched by Modern Warfare 2?
Now you are probably bored of me waffling on about the build up to the game and I beat you want to know its storyline. It takes off right from were you left it at the ending of the first Modern Warfare. Russia is still in decline and causing headaches for the world’s top leaders. A new Russian terrorist organization is trying to cause havoc in the region and take control of Russia’s huge weapons stockpile. At the head of all this is a man named Makarov, a close associate of Zakhaev who was responsible for the nuclear attack in the previous game. Makarov believes that Zakhaev’s death is an act of martyrdom and uses it to rally support for his cause. He has by now established a strong power base in Russia and now feels its time to take control.
Opposing Makarov is an international anti-terrorist agency called ‘Task Force 141′. This group is led by an old acquaintance for those who have played the first game, John ‘Soap’ McTavish. Your character will be working alongside McTavish, visiting countries such as Russia, Afghanistan, and Brazil, trying to stop Makarov from reaching his villainous goals.
Such settings you will fight in hugely vary from suburban areas to snow-filled mountains, the stage of an adrenaline-filled snowmobile chase where bullets are as abundant as snowflakes. If you aren’t excited enough already then you will be glad to hear that all the great intense first person action and explosions from the original game are still as enjoyable as ever. Especially for those who love a cinematic experience and top-notch graphics.
The game play also looks just as promising. With the campaign taking between six to ten hours to complete, Modern Warfare 2 is also promising some very exciting multiplayer action. RPG style level ups will be in place which will add an interesting change. A large amount of sprinting grants you an ‘Endurance perk’ and holding your breath while sniping will give you iron lungs if done enough times. Armour and clothing also grants you other perks such as ‘Juggernaut’ and ‘Bomb squad’. On top of all this is a wider range of customized weapons and equipment which interestingly includes throwing knives and a shield.
All we must do now is just sit and wait until the 10th November 2009.
