Player Setups

“Survivor”

Lets say that your not exactly the most accurate shooter or don’t have good reflex’s, this is the setup you should use… For perks you will need: “1 – Bandolier, 2 – Juggernaut, 3 – Last Stand/Second Chance” This means you will last long and be able to Kill the Person who killed you and also have enough to last your lifetime, On perk 3 you could also choose Martyrdom which will drop a grenade and usually get you at least one kill. For weapons, your usually going to want something that can shoot a lot of bullets, fast. I’d suggest using a Light Machine Gun or Possibly a shotgun. Although this method is going to keep you alive longer, its not as easy to kill people as other methods… Especially if the other player saw you first.

“Sharp Shooter”

This setup is for people who have great eyesight and the best reflexes possible, as your going to be shooting small targets quickly… For perks you are going to need “1 – Bouncing Betties/Claymores, 2 – Stopping Power, 3 Deep Impact” This means that you can stay in one spot safely with the claymores and you can kill people with 1-2 shots easily (2-4 through walls), for Perk 3 you could also have steady aim (If your using a Bolt-Action/Sniper Rifle with a scope) as this will help if your not so quick at aiming. For weapons your going to have to use either a Bolt-Shot-Rifle/Sniper or Just a plain Rifle depending on distance, damage and fire rate that you want. This method is probably going to give you the best KDR (Kill/Death Ratio) as your not going to be seen often and you can see most of the map (If your in a good position) and kill people who are one the other side of it, if you are found however, its hard to kill people at close range especially if there’s more than one…

“Explosives Expert”

This setup is for people who like things that go “BOOM!” and like to more than one person at a time… For perks your going to need: “1 – C4/Satchel Charges, 2 – Fireworks/Sonic Boom, 3 – Martyrdom” This means that you can lay down explosives and wait till someone comes past to kill them, and that they do more damage then usual but If you get snuck up on and killed then they die as well. For weapons your going to want to use a Shotgun as your mostly going to be in Close Quarter combat when trying to get to a good place to hide. This is definitely one of the best setups to use if you cant seem to get kills very easy as you don’t really need much skill to use it…

“Running Gunner”

This setup is the one that requires the most skill but generally gets you the best possible kill streak, it requires you to have good reflexes, aiming and know the hiding spots of all the maps… For perks your going to need “1 – Bandolier, 2 – stopping Power, 3 – Extreme Conditioning” This allows you to Kill easily without worrying about wasting ammo and lets you run to the best spot before anyone else. For Weapons your going to want to use a Sub-Machine gun, preferably one with High damage and low accuracy (Low accuracy is better for Hip fire as it can hit more people) like the MP40 (COD5), you will also want to get the silencer for the weapon you want to use so that you don’t get caught by surprise while on your kill streak or you could use a shotgun that shoots quickly,. If your good at the game then this is the best setup you could use, but is hard to get into without dieing all of the time.

These are all of course just examples and you could mix and match the perks and weapons to get the setup which is just right for you…

Techniques

“Knifing”

Knifing can be one of the most frustrating and hard to perfect parts of the COD games, you will find that the higher levels could see you for a fraction of a second before they knife you yet the lower levels will take 1-2 whole seconds. The best way to practise this is to play about 4 matches using JUST the knife, this will decrease the reaction time needed when your playing in an actually game.

“Glitching”

This is the technique I advise that you DEFINITELY do NOT do as it gives you an unfair edge over the other players and takes away any fun, the only time you should do this is when your in a private match with your friends who wont mind being killed from under the floor or from outside of the map.

“Camping”

Camping can get you a high kill streak but can blow up in your face if you don’t move after a few kills, this technique will also annoy a lot of people but you don’t have an extreme edge over them so its tolerable. When you camp make sure to have things like UAV Jammer on and Silencers otherwise your dead after your first kill.

“Dodging Bullets”

Although the title sounds kind of stupid its what a lot of the higher levels do. if your being shot at from behind or far away, rather than trying to just run to cover, try to do things in combination such as (Run, Prone, Stand, Jump, Prone in Air, Run) as this makes you a smaller target while your still running at the same speed as usual.

“Quick Scoping”

This is quite useful when you need to shoot something far away in a hurry (Being shot at, they’re aiming at you etc) and requires reflexes and good aiming, Quick Scoping just means that you can zoom in for a split second and shoot just as quickly to get the little bit of extra precision when using Snipers or Rifles in a hurry. To practise this, get into a private match on your own or with a friend and try to either shoot something small (A watermelon) using this method or you and your friend could jump around trying to quick scope each other with a sniper.

If you have any questions to ask or would like me to include anything else just leave a comment and ill try to get to it as quickly as possible

Tbh, quite alot has changed in terms of gameplay, its generally slower because of the slow weapons and big maps… This could be different on the PC Version because of the bigger teams limit but this is just my opinion

nice I knew all that info but to someone who is not already an avid player would be awesome:)
I am definetly the “running gunner” however I disagree with the MP40 comment…not only will you be hated for an MP40 spamming noob the thompson and PPSH are both FAR superior and can still snipe is the need arises:)
Best of luck and I also have written some guides:) Check them out hehe!

It really all depends tbh… As i said in the guide, these are just examples of the best techniques ive seen and done. I’ve been told by a few people that the MP40 isnt as good as the Thomson but i find that guns that shoot relatively slow and in-accurate are the best for killing with the Running Gunner strategy…

Well I prefer the sniper guns tbh XD
My brothers always like you noob why are you using springfield with sniper scope?
    Lmao
I saw it on Saving Private Ryan
And I found a way how to play cod5 with getting an average of 15+ kills and under 8 deaths :)
plus with bouncing betties it helps.

i was wondering is steady aim a good perk for an MG

  19. Posted February 19, 2009 at 7:08 pm

It really depends on you, but i would say: No, generally when people use MGs they are usually at a distance and laying on the ground so they wont be using Hip Fire much. However, if you are going to be running around with it alot then Yes, use steady aim.

Does the deeper bullet penetration take more damage off the enemy or does it just shoot threw walls?

  21. Posted February 28, 2009 at 4:45 am

The Bullet Penetration just goes through thicker walls, but… If your shooting someone through the wall without it on, it does less damage. So i guess you could say it does damage more in a way…

what are good perks for the thomsin i have double tap and steaidy aim is that good?????????????

  24. Posted March 29, 2009 at 11:50 am

Broseph, Care to elaborate on what i should elaborate on? :P

And ggfg, I think that your better off with Bullet Penetration rather than steady aim… Thomson could probably take someone out quite close to you relatively easy without it, and someone across the map while aiming. So Penetration is more usefull

ppsh is better for newer players because it is better than mp40 from the shoulder but the mp40 is by far the best gun in the game because it is more powerful and it is best used when shot from the hip with steady aim not from the shoulder. what newer players usually do is that they always shoot from the shoulder which is a huge mistake. you should always shoot from the hip. yes, you do need more control over your controller because it is more sensitive from the hip than the shoulder but you can easily kill anyone from close to medium range. ppsh is waaay too weak to even try doing this. That is why in my opinion ppsh is a newb gun. the only time i use mp40 from the shoulder is when im counter sniping.

what a pointless and stupid guide, if you’ve already unlocked those perks then you’ve played the game for a while and gained some experience of the weapons available to you, therefore you’re hardly a “newbie” you should by now have figured out whats best for you, also different load outs work for different maps…just enjoy the damn game, you geeks take this far too seriously, you need to get out more!
You all probably think Wrestling is real too…LOL!

i dont understand what is shooting from the hip? what is shooting from the shoulder? Also one more thing.. if u use the perk steady aim it says increases hip-fire accuracy what does that mean?

..puma.. shooting from the hip means like not holding the aiming button when u shoot, shooting from the shoulder means holding the aiming button when u shoot… steady aim increases ur accuracy when not holding the aiming button ( in my opinion ) once ur used to the game, use the mp40 cuz of its raw power, with bomb squad [if u r accurate, as bandolier won't be needed] , stopping power on core [double tap on hardcore] with second chance with magnum as side arm, if ur a beginner use the type 100 or ppsh cuz of the fire rate, if u use type 100, have stopping power on with bomb squad and second chance with magnum, if ppsh put stopping power on (i suggest not usin the thompson once the type 100 is unlocked cuz the type 100 has better stats in fire rate and damage, it has the same range and but has slightly lower accuracy) [COOL MY OWN LITTLE GUIDE lol]
