Game Opinions and Info: Article Three – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Two

Some ideas and thoughts on CoD: MW2.

No doubt, you have played the old “Call of Duty” games by now. Infact, I’m rather sure you have, but if you haven’t, I’m sure Modern Warfare 2 would be a good place to start. I sure do love Call of Duty for the fact that it constantly draws in more and more of the swarm of usually casual gamers to our integrated and underground society of gamers. We can always get new recruits.

Modern Warfare 2 is the 6th (count ‘em, six) game in the Call of Duty series, the first to include several new features, and gameplay modes/options.

Here I will make a short list of some things I like and don’t like about these features and new ones, as well as some short bits of info on them.

New Campaign

Info: The campaign in MW2 takes place in several locations, such as Russia, a military base in Kazakhstan, Rio de Janeiro, and a desert-like area in Afghanistan. Several trailers on the web have shown some fighting in Washington D.C. (Among all places to take the fight.) with civilians running wildly about, scared for their life.

Praise: This new campaign will not wear out it’s welcome, nor will it be too short, being the nice length that the MW campaign was, about 6-10 hours depending on how fast you game. A couple things, here, actually. I for one, love fighting in Washington D.C., often via Fallout 3. Maybe this game is a bit more realistic in it’s ventures, but I can’t imagine it won’t be as much if not more fun. The other thing I find attractive about this campaign is the fact that it’s very similar to it’s predecessors. If it’s half as fun as them, it can’t go wrong.

Disapproval: Here, not much I can say is bad. In all the trailers and gameplay we’ve seen so far, the campaign looks absolutely wonderful. If for some reason you didn’t like the campaigns of the other CoD’s, I first advise you that you’re in the wrong industry looking for fun, but then I say if you wish to stay, CoD must just not be your thing. (Nor is having fun. Sorry.)

New Co-op Multiplayer mode: Spec-Ops.

Info: This mode consists of doing missions with a partner, or if for some reason you wish, by yourself. This mode is like a whole new campaign that is designed specifically for co-op playthrough, and you can bet on spending some time beating it.

Praise: Everyone loves the campaigns in Call of Duty, who wouldn’t love to play through them with a friend in a much more seamless way than in CoD:World at War’s co-op? Sure to be a pleaser.

Disapproval: For those who have no interest in multiplayer (few and far between) this mode will be very dry, and very difficult. Other than that, again, I have hardly any complaints on this wonderful feature.

New Kill Streak Rewards

Info: In MW2, much like in previous CoD games, you will be able to call certain special attacks in after amounts of killing without death, AKA Kill Streaks. The only (very) notable difference is that in MW2, you can unlock up to 15 of these rewards, and select them for use.

Praise: Everyone likes new skills to unlock in Call of Duty games for multiplayer (AKA Battlefield Syndrome) so why not add some new unlockables? I like the idea a lot.

Disapproval: Who hates higher leveled players calling in god attacks and completely destroying your entire team? Raise your hand. The one thing I can hope is that these attacks are rather similar in usefulness, just more exciting to use and more helpful to the specific player, or that the ranked plays will be well scaled, with you playing against people near your level almost always.

As it goes, Modern Warfare 2 is looking to be one of the most succesful games for the past few years, and with good reason. If you’re a gamer at all, casual or not, this a game for you to look into. Other than that, game on, fellows! I say you’ll really enjoy Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2, please don’t deprive yourself of this experience.
