Some Ideas for Future Castlevania Games
A look back at the Castlevania series and wanting to come up with some ideas for future games plus give some small thoughts on a possible Castlevania film.
Castlevania is a franchise that has become popular over the years but has not seen a console game this generation of gaming. Mainly because of lack of ideas or maybe even because of some of the 3D games going as well as anticipated. I can’t speak for those because I don’t have them at all. The original games were seen as platformers and then moved into a style that has combined itself with Metroid. There had been a few 3D Castlevania games as that hasn’t been an easy transition. Then again, it isn’t easy no matter what franchise it would be. There hasn’t been a new Castlevania game made on a home console but have seen them on the hand-helds, in particular the DS with new ones. The upcoming game is Order of Ecclesia and it’s going to have a woman character as the main character for the first time since Castlevania Legends on the original Game Boy.
I’m going to be looking at possible ideas whether it’s collections or even a new Castlevania game but it should have a different style of play. As they say, too much of a good thing can become a bad thing. Maybe I’m sure it can be but a 3D game could be good if done properly. It has worked for other franchises and just needs a way of going all the way and putting it together. In truth, we know that 2D Castlevania games go together by bread and butter.
Classic Castlevania Collection
We’ve seen the Dracula X Chronicles made with Dracula X, Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night and why not the original 3 Castlevania games together. As far as how does it need to look, it can be slightly enhanced but not really remade. In fact, let’s add Super Castlevania IV and Bloodlines as well. That would be going back to the past with the older style of Castlevania and was more of a platformer game without the RPG elements.
Castlevania with Julius Belmont
Alluded to in Aria of Sorrow with Julius as the primary character, this would be something to further elaborate and how Dracula got killed and wasn’t technically seen again. Before anyone says Soma Cruz, I consider him a completely different character. It would tell a story and would be more or less a prequel to the Aria and Dawn of Sorrow games. This way you can get introduced a bit more to Julius. As far as what type of game could it be, how about something like a stage selection or something different? Maybe a 3D game but only if done right or a classic platform Castlevania game just as a tribute. If Alucard is involved, why not just make a special mode and give him an entirely different storyline?
Castlevania Resurrection
I remember reading about this somewhere in the Castlevania Dungeon and how it was cancelled. It was a shame because based upon screenshots and the plot; it might have been interesting and could have been a good game. Maybe I’m one of the few but it could have worked but with the possibility of two characters, how about two separate storylines much like in Mega Man X4. Looking at that in the past, you would have Sonia and Victor through some time travel method. A female countess as a villain as well resembling Dracula and that could work. I say run with it and see what you could possibly get out of it. The plot could work and maybe in the 3rd Dimension. It doesn’t have to be called Resurrection but this was used for the purpose of a cancelled game.
Maybe I’m a bit open on a 3D Castlevania game but it could work. It’s one of those things that can work and would be perfect for a console system. Maybe even a hybrid mix of 2D and 3D elements before going all out. These are some Castlevania games but the question is what system should it go on exactly? Well, any of the ones available would work just fine. It would be interesting with the Wiimote and how it would play for Castlevania to be honest.
As far as my thoughts on the possibility of a Castlevania movie, it goes like this. It can work but it needs to have someone who actually is familiar with the video game series and make it into an anime. It just seems like it would fit much easier for some reason. It couldn’t be worse than the Super Mario Bros. Movie now can it? Overall, the games themselves have been fun and challenging and that’s what you need. The greater the challenge, the greater the reward is for victory.
Castlevania just doesn’t seem to be going away and while it may get harder to come up with new concepts, it might still be worth playing regardless. As long as the games are good, people will play and if there’s money to be made, then you know Konami will do it.
