Game Opinions and Info: Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2 is a sequel to the award winning game, “Left 4 Dead”.

In the original, four survivors fought for their life against zombies through four campaigns, and one other released in DLC. In L4D(1), the four survivors were Zoey, Francis, Bill, and Louis. The fun-loving and great game it was, it had many features, but it still felt rather lacking. A great game for a few weeks or so, but it soon wore dry. This is where L4D2 steps in.

Complaints and Fixes

Weapons

Left 4 Dead (1): Not much weapon choice. You had a pistol as your starting weapon. 1st tier weapons included the pump shotgun and semi-automatic machine gun. 2nd tier includes the assault rifle, hunting rifle, and automatic shotgun.

Left 4 Dead 2: Many new weapons, including spiffed up versions of old weapons, and that’s not even including the 10 or so melee weapons.

Gibbing

Left 4 Dead (1): Very unrealistic “gibbing”. “Gibbing” refers to the breaking/destroying of a model, like zombie parts being blown off. L4D showed zombies heads completely exploding or a leg-off here and there, but that was only funny/enjoyable for a bit.

Left 4 Dead 2: New gibbing engine, and it’s much more realistic. Sure, just blowing a zombie onto his back was fun, now think blowing him on his back while he loses half his arm and half his face, then STILL wants your flesh, which brings us to the next topic:

Stronger Zombies

Left 4 Dead (1): If you played that game as much as I did, you noticed that the zombies (unless you played on Expert) were unreasonably feeble. Not taking but so many shots, not doing a lot of damage.

Left 4 Dead 2: The zombies in this may not be stronger, but they are much less feeble. Taking more shots and even having their limbs blown off- But still coming after you.

Special Zombies

Left 4 Dead (1): Left 4 Dead brought us 3 special zombies, the Boomer, the Smoker, and the Hunter. They puked, grabbed, strangled, and tore you to shreds, respectively, the smoker having two functions and all. A good amount of scary guys and gals, adding Tank and Witch.

Left 4 Dead 2: This installment includes a few new fella’s to play around with, and another gal. We have the Jockey, who attacks your character and takes them for a little ride, controlling them off a cliff or into another crowd of zombies. We have the Spitter, who spits acid on the ground which hurts survivors who are in the effect range. Lastly, we have the Charger, the fellow who grabs you with his one massive arm, and smashes you repeatedly in to the ground. Fun stuff.

To finish this up (I need to go to class.) Left 4 Dead 2 is bound to be a big game for 2009, allowing that other releases like Assassin’s Creed 2 and Modern Warfare 2 don’t shut the poor guy out. He deserves a spot to shine. Please, pick it up, check it out, just rent it if you must. You’ll really like this title.
