Halo 3: ODST Firefight Guide
This guide will explain the mechanics of the firefight mode in Halo 3: ODST.
Firstly, I will explain how the hierarchy of the Firefight mode. There are 5 waves in a round, 3 rounds in a set, and an infinite amount of sets. You are given 7 lives at the beginning.
Wave
The end of a wave is signified by the word “Reinforcements” on the screen. The first wave of a round is usually grunts and jackals and by wave 5, you have brute chieftains with fuel rods or gravity hammers. When a wave starts, a drop ship comes in and drops of enemies at certain drop-off points. These drop-off points never change so make note of where they drop. In addition to enemies on foot, if the map supports vehicles, then they can drop enemies in vehicles; however, these enemies do not count to the total number of enemies to reach the next round. Be sure to make use of weapons and health packs on the map as they will be respawned at the end of the round.
Round
When the end of a round is near, it will tell you the amount of enemies remaining starting at 5. After every round, the weapons and health packs on the wall will regenerate. Also, you are rewarded more lives at the end of a round. When the new round starts, a new skull will be turned on. Throughout the game, you have the tough luck skull on, but when u get a new round, one of 2 skulls (Catch, Black Eye) will be turned on, adding to the skulls you had earlier.
Set
At the end of a set, there is a bonus round. During this bonus round, all the skulls are turned on, including Iron; however, when a player dies, the life count isn’t deducted. The enemies in this bonus round are all grunts. They continuously spawn and overrun the players. The object of this round is to get as many points as possible. The more points you get, the more bonus lives you are rewarded. I’ve never personally gone past the 4th set, but I read that there are an infinite amount of sets.
Warning
This Firefight mode, which is similar to nazi zombies in cod5 and horde in gears 2, will similarly take lots of time. If you are going to play with other players and you have a choice, you should choose the best players with the best connection. If a player disconnects, the firefight is over.
