Halo Wars

A simple question with so many opinions. Is Halo Wars a good or bad game?

Well, personally I rate Halo Wars 8.6. Not only do I love RTS’, but Halo Wars is one of my favorite.

Better than the late great PC RTS’, RA, RA2, RA2 (Yuri’s Revenge), Halo Wars has amazing graphics in comparison as well as neat controls. I have not played RA3 Kane’s Revenge on the Xbox 360 yet, but I have played RA3 (without expansion.). Halo Wars in my opinion is better than RA3, as Halo Wars has a larger arsenal of upgrades, troops, and Building Upgrades than RA3.

Halo Wars also introduces a new idea for a Base. Instead of having spaces and based on Energy buildings, you can create more buildings, when you build a Firebase (The lowest level of base.) you have 3 slots. Each slot can be used to build more buildings on. When you upgrade the Firebase to the next level, you have 5 slots for buildings, as well as 4 Turret Slots on the corners of your base. At the final level, the Base is called a Fortress, and it has a total of 7 slots for buildings. Furthermore, Energy is not based on how much is consumed by buildings, but instead, you build an Energy building for 1 Energy. If you wanted to build a Scorpion Tank, you need 2 Energy; so you’d need to either upgrade your Reactor or build another one. But the Scorpion does not consume this energy making it unusable, it only requires that much energy total to be built.

One of the neatest things about Halo Wars is that practically every building has one or more upgrades. Reactors can upgrade to Advanced Reactors, providing 2 Energy. Supply Pads (The things that give you Resources/Money.) can be upgraded to Heavy Supply Pads, which generate resources twice as fast. Turrets can be upgraded to Rail Guns, Missile Launchers, or Flame Mortars. Each good on a specific type of unit. (KEY: Flame Mortars>Infantry; Rail Guns>Tanks; Missile Launchers>Air.) Even your Base can be upgraded from Firebase all the way to Fortress. Also, instead of your Tank Factory creating Warthogs, your Base does that. Your base has its own arsenal of Warthog upgrades, such as Gunner, Grenadier, Gauss Upgrade and other stuff. The Barracks consists of Marines and Flame Throwers, Marines are basic troops and Flames are Anti-Infantry. The upgrades for Barracks consist of Flame Throwers being able to carry Flash Grenades, Marines being able to use RPGs instead of Grenades, The “New Blood” upgrade which makes it so that each unit of Marines consists of 6 Marines instead of 5. (New Blood doesn’t affect Flames, there are 2 Flamethrowers per unit regardless of this upgrade.)

The Tank factory allows you to upgrade your Scorpion with an extra Shell Canister, which allows the Scorpion to shoot a large blast that splits into 4 explosions around the target. It also allows you to upgrade Scorps with a “Power Turret”, which makes it so that your Scorpion Tank can rotate its head around at a much faster rate, which allows better accuracy, etc. Other tanks are “Wolverines”, which are Anti-Air, and “Cobra” Tanks are Anti-Tank. You can also build an Air Base, which can build Hornets, a useful air-craft. It can also build Hawks, which are even more powerful, and have an EMP Laser as a main cannon. The Human’s Uber Unit is called a Vulture. The Vulture shoots rockets at an Alarming Rate, with deadly accuracy and firepower. It also has an upgrade that allows it to shoot at double-speed.

That’s most of the Human’s stuff, they also have Grizzlies, which are the most epic form of Scorpion Tank with 3x the defense.

Thanks for Reading.
