Ps4 to Include Optical Drive
The idea of download-only can whisk itself to the hypothetical Ninth Generation of Video Game Consoles.
Greetings, dear readers. I read the other day on the Wall Street Journal that Sony’s plans for a download-only (that is, shipping without an optical drive) PS4 never came to fruition. There’s more than a few reasons for this, among them being the resounding failure of the PSP Go (remember that flash in the pan?) Another reason cited in the article was the lack of American broadband infrastructure, where, in some parts of the country, more bytes per second are transferred via truck to brick and mortar than to whatever passes for internet there. A less carrot and more stick reasoning is the PS3’s double capacity as a Blu-ray player, making the console more useful – a quality I’d imagine Sony would want to pack into the next PlayStation.
You can read the article here, there’s other insights in it, too.
