Red Faction 2 and Guerilla – How to Fix Graphics & Can’t Move Error
How to fix "can not move after the intorducing game cinematics" and "weird graphics" in Red Faction two and Red Faction Guerilla.
lot of users have experienced problems after installing the game Red Faction 2 or Red Faction Guerrilla with the graphics not working properly, the game freezing or in some cases they couldn’t move at all with the character after the introducing game cinematics. This was the problem for me too, I couldn’t move. First I thought it was some driver problem, so I have updated everything, downloaded every “working” driver, but they just couldn’t solve the issue. I was looking at forums and everything to find out how to fix this “bug”/error, but the only thing I could find was even more questions about such problems.
Here is the things that I have found finally and that helped me:
Solution 1:
- Open Steam.
- Go to Library/Games.
- Right click Red Faction
- Properties/Set launch Option
- Type: “-nod3d10” (without quotes of course)
This forces Steam to use DX9 instead of DX10. Nothing worked for me, but this. Try it.
Solution 2 (Don’t use this with RFG, it will break GFWL and cause crashes later on! For RF2 only.):
- Download “mfpatchsteam.exe”
http://www.nebulamods.com/rf/mfpatchsteam.exe
or
http://hotfile.com/dl/78457990/b6f4062/mfpatchsteam.exe.html - Run it.
- It asks which program to patch. Choose “Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/red faction guerrilla/rfg.exe” (this was for Guerrilla, obviously for RF2 choose the appropriate folder and .exe file) as target file.
- Click “Start”
Both of the two above solutions work, but don’t go for the second one with Red Faction Guerilla. I am pretty sure that the first one will help. After this you should be able to run the game normally, without having any problems. The steps above helped me to fix this thing and I’m running the game just fine since. I hope I could make your search easier and shorter and you don’t have to go trough loads of forums too. I also hope that this helps for you too, have fun playing the game.
(If this didn’t help for you, the best place to look for the fix might be the official Steam forums or at http://www.gamebrood.com/2009/09/18/red-faction-guerrilla-pc-crash-crashes-freeze-freezing-ctd-crash-to-desktop-cant-launch-framerate-and-graphics-issues-fix-and-fixes/ )

Hi there! I noticed you were linking to my RF2 patch for Steam. I’m glad it helps, but please make a note that “mfpatchsteam.exe” should NOT be used on RFG. It works on RF2 *only*, and using it on RFG will change the wrong things, apparently breaking GFWL, and can cause crashes later on.
Hey, thanks for noting that. Apperently I was using “mfpatchsteam.exe” for one day only with RFG, I did realise quite quickly that it kills GFWL so there was absolutely no saving for example in the game. But actually, other than that, I did not notice any crashes. I could only make the game work when I forced Steam to use DX9, however after long playtimes, sometimes the coat glitch came back. (I don’t know if they have fixed it yet, I don’t think they will)
I hope you don’t mind me using your link, if yes, say so and I will remove it.
Thanks again for making me aware of this, I’ll update it.
