1. “Thank you, Mario! But our Princess is in another castle!”
Game: Super Mario Bros.
Character: Toad
You risk your life, Stomp on hundreds of Koopas and Goombas, dodged hammers that rain from the sky, defeat Bowser, and all you get for it is an obnoxious toad that has the balls to tell you that their princess is in another castle!? Well the plumber may not get laid this time, but there’s always next castle.
2. “Hi, I’m Daisy”
Game: Mario Kart Double Dash!!
Character: Princess Daisy
Oh for the love of God, Someone shut her up! Every time you flip from Princess Peach to Daisy, you get the same annoying phrase, over and over and over and… Well you get the point. Annoying as it may be, it has given birth to many jokes in flash animations and comic strips involving Princess Daisy and “The Goddamned Batman”.

Character: If you don’t know, you must live under a rock.
I have some fond memories playing Super Mario 64. From throwing bowser into mines to distorting Mario’s long face on the splash screen. But what stands out is the first thing that gamers hear when they turn on the console: “It’s a me, Mario”! This memorable phrase is the trademark start of many flash parodies, including my favorite: Super Mario Bros Z (Found on Newgrounds).
4. “Mario always defeats me… This time I became invincible and I STILL couldn’t beat him!”

Character: Bowser
Not quite the Internet meme, but a testament to Mario’s ability to thrash poor bowser every time. I mean how can you screw up invincibility!? You had him right where you wanted him and instead of making sure Mario was dead the first time, you ejected the paper hero far away, so that he could heal and come back with a way defeat you!

Game: Paper Mario: The thousand Year Door
Character: Princess Peach
Poor Princess Peach just can’t catch a break. Nearly every game involves the princess being spirited away by some Dinosaur or Alien. This time it was the X-nauts (aliens). But that’s okay. The princess has a borderline psychotic, princess stalking computer to help her though her troubled times.
6. “What’s this…? Water…coming from your eyes?! Are you leaking, my dear?! Tastes salty!”
Game: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the 7 Stars
Character: Booster
If you’ve ever played Super Mario RPG, you would remember booster. The nut job with the killer playground palace! After the first fight with Bowser, You, Princess Toadstool (Peach) and Bowser are all scattered across the world by a giant sword that crashes the party. You meet up with the Princess only to find out that she was kidnapped by booster and is forcing her to wed him. He gets down to the chapel and peach starts crying. He tastes the tears that are flying out of her eyes and out pops his memorable phrase. I remember the first time I heard this, I was rolling around laughing.

Great article! I specifically remember quotes 4 and 5 from the first two Paper Mario games. Incredibly stupid but funny at the same time! And as for the “Legend of the 7 Stars” quote, you just reminded me of something – in Super Paper Mario, Peach is once again forced into a wedding. That’s two weddings in two different games, not to mention Bowser wanting to marry Peach as well! Wow, she must be pretty beautiful to attract so much attention from the other characters.
I especially liked Super Mario Galaxy, when at the end of the game after defeating Bowser and seeing the credits roll, you hear Mario’s voice saying “Thank you for playing my game!” That was a classic!
Oh yeah, those were classics! Especially with the accent! Mario games were just great!

I like how excited he is. like maybe the person who bought the Mario 64 game wasn’t sure who Mario was, or what he looked like. You know, because you only see his face on the box and on all the Mario-related merchandise.
Poor kid turns on the game, first thing he sees is a big floating head. Kid asks himself, “Who’s this?”
and he gets his answer.

However for #5 what was more memorable from that game for me, on a similar note was, after Bowser hears peach was kidnapped how he says “Who would do such a thing? Besides me?”
