The Wonderful World of Minecraft

Minecraft is a video game made by Swedish game manufacturer Mojang AB. Over the past couple years, Minecraft has become a juggernaut in the video game world and has even made its way into real life, spawning a clothing line, toys and even it’s own convention. Needless to say, this game has found its way into the hearts of millions of people the world over.

Now you may be asking “what makes Minecraft so popular?” The answer is simple: It is addicting. The game gives you a literally infinite landscape to explore and build on. The game has 2 modes of play; Survival and Creative. Survival is pretty much self-explanatory. In this mode, you start out with nothing and using the resources around you, you build shelter, weapons and tools and harvest food before night falls. Once night falls, the deadly creatures of the night come out to wreak havoc. These creatures include the Zombie, a slow-moving creature that attacks you up close, the Skeleton, which uses a bow and arrow to attack you from a distance, the Spider, which is fast and can crawl up vertical walls, the mysterious Enderman, a slender and black humanoid which only attacks when you look directly at it, and the infamous exploding Creeper, which uses a kamikaze-style explosion to harm the character and wreck the terrain and structures in the immediate area. To defend yourself against these creatures, swords are a must if you want to kill them easily. More useful equipment you want to keep with you can be made with wood, stone, gold, iron, and diamond, weakest to strongest respectively. You will need a pick axe to tunnel through stone and chisel out ores and diamonds, a hoe to farm, a shovel to dig dirt and sand quickly, a sword to fend of monsters and an axe to gather wood quickly. As you survive, you will explore above the ground and the thousands of caves that lie under your feet. these caves have riches abound that could aide in your survival in the world of Minecraft.

Creative mode, however, demands less instinct and more imagination. in this mode, you have unlimited resources at your disposal and the ability to fly around the map and make anything your mind can come up with, wether it be an epic castle, a mighty colliseum, or just a giant pixel sculpture of Super Mario. In this mode, the sky is the limit.

With the ability to play online with friends and with the thousands of texture packs and mods to chose from, there is no end to the fun minecraft can give to anyone, from the casual gamer, to the hardcore players. Minecraft has something for everyone, all you need to do is find that something you want to build.
