Tips on Using Fox in SSBM

Combo hits

First, get as much damage as you can at the very start of the game. You can achieve this by, the moment you span, rapidly tap the B button in order to shoot spam ur laser gun which does 1-2% of damage per hit. Dealing out up to 15 of these is already 15%.

Your opponent will most likely get smart and try to deflect, or jump over these lasers. When that happens, stop shooting, and prepare to fight. When your opponent comes near you, jump and almost about half a second, do a flash attack, which is achieved by doing a Left + B button, or Right + B button. This knocks down your opponent, and moves you away from your opponent as well. 

Second, when you have gotten your opponent to around 20% of damage, start fighting in hand to hand combat. Fox is very easy to spam smashes(powerful hits) fairly fast. Keep tapping your analog stick the direction you hit, and A button at the same time. You will do continuous kicks, which does a lot of damage if used in consecutive smash attacks.

Third, if the opponent tries to stop your smash attack combo, simply do a Down attack which is done by Down + A Button, which has a very fast frame rate, which it can stop the enemy from hitting you. This also hits the enemy upwards, and you can do a jump attack(Jump + Up + A Button). This kicks them up higher in the air. To finish your Combo, do an Up + B, which does your supersaiyan fire attack, and dash towards your enemy. If you are lucky and high enough in the air, you can hit the opponent out of the map screen, no matter what % damage they are at.

Fourth, run away from your opponent, and continue to keep shooting the enemy with the laser gun, dealing more additional damage.

Fifth, if the opponent is ever over an edge, you can edge guard them by simply jumping on the edge that they can grab onto while falling. This is helpful as they cannot grab on while you are on the edge, so they get “edged”. Also, there are attacks called “spikes” in the game, which hits the enemy down at a very fast rate, and renders their ability to survive greatly. Fox has 2 spikes. One is Down + B button, which forms a shield that reflects projectiles, but if hit directly, it does electrical damage and hits them downwards, and another is the Flash attack, which you have to be careful of when using as it can kill you. Using these 2 spike attacks is very helpful in killing enemies that have flown over the edge.

Sixth, if you find yourself flying over the edge, you have 2 ways of surviving. One is to use Up + B button, which is the supersaiyan fire. This one is your best surviving move, as it launches you any way you direct it, and it goes very far. I have been known to do miraculous saves for myself with this move when I am about to fall out of the map. The other move is the Flash attack, as it shoots you in either left or right direction that you choose. It does not go as far as the supersaiyan fire attack, but it is very fast and can spike an enemy down first if they try to spike you or edge guard you.

Also some key notes, Fox has a very fast grab, as you can do chain grabs. You can keep grabbing them, and move your analog stick left or right to punch them in that direction. The punch does not knock them down, nor does it make them flinch, which makes it easy to run up and grab them again and repeat the process.

I have beaten countless people with this guideline, just practice with these rules and you will become a powerful and hard opponent to defeat.
