Top Three Gamecube Games
Here are my choices for top three games on the Nintendo GameCube.
3. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Gamecube for the most part was pretty lackluster. It didn’t have very many great games on it. A few did stand out though, and among those was Wind Waker. Although the graphics were cartoony (which a lot of people complained about), it still held true to what made Zelda great in its beginnings, and is very fun to play. It also has that great Zelda story and there is a lot of exploration to do. Overall it was a great addition to the franchise and kept the GameCube alive.
2. Super Smash Bros. Melee
This game was released at the same time as the Gamecube. This was virtually the only good game that was a part of Gamecube’s intial launch. However, it was enough to make me and my friend’s buy a Gamecube just for this game. The first Smash Bros. was good, but Melee was great. It had almost double the characters of the original, about double the stages, tons of new modes, better graphics, and faster paced gameplay. This game saw the Smash Bros. series being propelled into the competitive scene as well. This was the selling point for the Gamecube at launch.
1. Metroid Prime
This was Samus’s first step onto a console since Super Metroid on the Super Nintendo, and it did not disappoint. It was also the first Metroid game in 3D. Seeing the graphics for Metroid Prime on the Gamecube was unbelievable. The graphics of this game made it almost look like it belonged on a next-gen console. Along with these stellar graphics came amazing addictive gameplay, and the two together provided for a memorable, beautiful adventure, and was the beginning of a new epic trilogy in the Metroid franchise.
Honorable Mention: Resident Evil 4
