Xbox360 Price Cut to $299
After the PS3 price was reduced by a hundred bucks, Microsoft makes an announcement regarding price reduction for the Xbox360 video game systems. It will now be cheaper on the Internet and at brick and mortar stores.
Sony just made the big announcement regarding their new PS3 slim system, and the $100 price cut. In fact, some stores are already selling the new system. And the stores are reporting that the new PS3 slim systems are flying off of the shelves. Now on the heels of this announcement, comes word that the Xbox360 is now cheaper.
Microsoft says that the Xbox360 Elite has now be cut by $100. The previous price for the Xbox360 Elite system was $399. Now the video game system will retail for $299. The Xbox360 Pro system has also been reduced and discontinued. The system has been cut by $50 from $299, to the new price of $249. Once all of these systems have been sold, there will be no more manufactured.
So what is up with the discontinued system?
Well after they are all sold out, there will only be two different Xbox360 versions that you can buy. You will be able to buy the Xbox360 Elite for $299, along with the Xbox360 arcade for $199. The Elite video game system will come with a 120GB hard drive, while the Arcade system will come with a 256MB memory card.
According to this article, Microsoft says that these price reductions have been planned for months. Just because Sony announced the PS3 price cut, doesn’t mean this is why Microsoft is making this announcement. Microsoft says, “I’m sure some will think this is a response to competitor pricing. But we had planned this reduction months in advance. Retail circular ads and store merchandising were all lined up. We wanted to be ready for the holiday season.”
Now a Sony Playstation 3 and and Xbox360 Elite are at the same price of $299. The new price of the Xbox360 systems are starting as of today. No waiting until September for the new prices to take effect. The console wars are definitely heating up right now with these price cut announcements. First Sony, then Microsoft, so now what about Nintendo? Some kind of announcement is anticipated between now and the holiday season of 2009.
Are you kidding me? “been planning for months” right.. just there way of saying it without getting criticized. It’s obviously a retaliation to the PS3 price roll back
It’s hard to believe they could say that after just one week since the PS3 announcement. Maybe they were planning a price cut but they were just waiting for Sony to make the price cut first.
Congrats on getting in hot content on the same day you published it.
Thanks, this item is hot and being searched on Google today since the announcement just happened today. It will be interesting to see what happens with all 3 current consoles now, in terms of sales I mean.
That’s great that the Xbox360 is going to be cheaper. I think that will help their sales because more people will be able to afford to buy it.
