Movie Review : “Journey 2:”the Mysterious Island”"

A short review movie Journey 2:"The Mysterious Island"

Michael Caine is one of the most respected actors in Hollywood. Successfully won two Academy Awards and went on to become one of the actors who are consistently earned acting nominations at the awards Hollywood film in every decade since the 1960s, Caine sharpen his reputation as a top class actor to always provide a perfect appearance on the film- films that are carefully chosen for starring it. Therefore, quite surprising to see why Caine would take part in the Journey 2: The Mysterious Island – the sequel to the film Journey to the Center of the Earth a huge commercial success when released in 2008 and became one of the pioneers of film in the rise of the use of 3D technology Hollywood movies. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island not only has a storyline that is so easy to guess. The storyline of this film appear so lazy, without trying to give a feel of the new storytelling as well as sequences of characters are so shallow and hard to be liked.

Well … you are intending to watch Journey 2: The Mysterious Island to witness the appearance of Brendan Fraser seems to be getting ready to be disappointed. Fraser does not exist in this series. In fact, the only connection is created between Journey 2: The Mysterious Island by Journey to the Center of the Earth lies in the character of Sean Anderson, played by Josh Hutcherson. In Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Sean get a series of secret code that he believed sent by a Vernian – the designation for the true connoisseur of the works of author Jules Verne. Facing difficulties in solving the password is, Sean finally asked for help in his stepfather, Hank Parsons (Dwayne Johnson). Through the help of Hank, the password is finally able to read and reveal that the ‘mysterious island is real.’

Sean definitely excited to read the meaning of the password. Due to be sent by a Vernian – who then allegedly Sean is his grandfather, Alexander Anderson (Michael Caine), Sean interpret that mysterious island in question is a mysterious island contained in the novel The Mysterious Island Jules Verne’s work. Obviously, as can be expected, Sean then intend to head to the island – which was then known as the island of Palau in the Pacific Ocean – as well as to meet his grandfather. Clear idea later rejected by Hank. However, in an attempt to bring him with Sean, Sean Hank finally allowed to leave for an adventure … with him. And a series of adventure into a new world that had never before known to man was finally begun.

Such as those offered by the first series, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a film that focuses on the ability of the charm of the author to display the image displays a stunning visual effects are amazing and the use of 3D technology that will make the story more alive. These rules are still applied in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and, frankly, is still able to work effectively in providing the main attraction for the audience about a new world filled with strange creatures that have never before seen visuals and beautiful the colors are so eye-catching. Alright. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a winner if you want to judge it in terms of visual appearance.

However, it cannot be denied, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island has a script that story really weak. All trips and events that will happen in this film could easily have been predicted before. Play wright Brian and Mark Gunn then attempt to add another layer to the storyline of this film constantly giving problems to deal with the character. Unfortunately, the execution of the direction of Brad Peyton was never able to really make Journey 2: The Mysterious Island goes well. The result, many of the scenes that was presented in such a rush and settled in a way that is so shallow.

Then came the acting department. With shallow characterization is given for each figure presented in the plot of this film, no wonder then that none of the cast line of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island appear competent in displaying their acting ability. Michael Caine will certainly feel ashamed to look foolish deeds that he did when he played the character of a grandfather over-acting in this film. Josh Hutcherson just continues the work he has run in the first film. Chemistry which he produces with Vanessa Hudgens is completely empty, as empty as the appearance of Hudgens is far from impressive. Then there is Luis Guzman who gets the role to deliver jokes the series … that fails to appear funny. And Dwayne Johnson have become the foundation of the main attraction of this film … that should be recognized again lowered his class after he achieved success in the film Fast Five in the last year.

The main reason to watch Journey 2: The Mysterious Island? The film is a family adventure film that did not promise anything for the audience except for an interesting visual appearance with some humor that still manages to look intriguing and the plot that feels so familiar to follow. Even so, it would not be able to cover up the fact that Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a film that failed to be able to look nice. Some moments could give the impression that the film is able to do so, but a moment later, the film is then returned and slammed into a flat film, and sometimes so annoying. Not really bad, but clearly still much to be categorized as quality.
