Awesome Indie Games Pt. Two

Okay, yeah, that was a bit longer than a couple days, but here it goes! Round 2!

MORE INDIE GAMES!!!

Another five games to mess around with, especially helpful to those of you with gaming ADD. All are really quite entertaining, and every one doesn’t cost you a cent!

Iji

In Iji, you play as a girl turned super-cyborg attempting to rid the world of alien invaders in a very Metroid-esque fashion. A key difference though, is in the implementation of stat-building and multiple endings, both of which work quite well. Every enemy that is defeated leaves behind a bit of experience, which can be used to upgrade your abilities, ranging from additional health to your hacking prowess. Each feels equally needed and your path through each level will change depending on what is chosen. The music and story are great and well worth the space on your hard drive.

Toribash

Oh wow, but I haven’t even put any multiplayer games on here! Here’s a great one to start with. Toribash could be best described as “a turn-based ragdoll fighting game”. Initially, it can be really hard to figure out, since the combat revolves around contracting and relaxing individual muscles on the fighter, but once you get the hang of it, you can do some awesome moves. With numerous gamemodes, arenas, customizable fighters and multiplayer dismemberment, Toribash adds up to a solid game.

Phun

Phun, a 2D physics sandbox game, lets you create contraptions a la The Incredible Machine. I’ve seen things like fully functional motors, cars, perpetual motion machines and more created in this thing. Kind of a steep learning curve, but still worth a DL.

Knytt Stories

Knytt Stories is a sort-of-sequel to Knytt, another game. Both are pretty solid platformers, with several powerups, but in my opinion, Stories comes out on top solely because it allows for user-created content, like the hilarious gem that’s in this video. Many other “stories” can be downloaded off of the game’s forums, making sure that the game never gets old.

Soldat

For all you shooter fans, here’s another multiplayer game! Soldat is very similar to a real-time version of Worms, you run around 2D maps shooting other players with a variety of weapons. There are several gamemodes, supporting up to 32 players at once, which can mean things become quite hectic, but all the more fun.

There’s your games, have fun! If you haven’t already, check out pt. 1 for another 5 great indies.

PS> I already have anothe 5 games lined up for pt. 3, so hopefully pt. 3 will come sooner once I finish playing them. Also, if any of you have an indie that you would like me to check out, drop a comment!
