Comparison of Assasins Creed Two and Assasins Creed
A comparison of the first game and the sequel.
November 2007, Ubisoft released its new hit game Assassins Creed for the two major consoles (Playstation 3 and Xbox 360), and PC. The game told the story about Desmond Miles, a barkeeper who gets kidnapped and is brought to Abstergo Industries where researchers work on a project named the “Animus”. This project is able to allow people to relive memories of his ancestors as if they were his own. Altaïr, the ancestor of Desmond is the reason it was him who was chosen for the project and the game starts of as Desmond starts of by living through Altaïrs memories. The game revolves around Desmond living his ancestor’s memories and helping the Animus project recover information and ancient artifacts from the time of his ancestor.
The unique game play concept of combining platform jumping, an open world, excellent close-range combat and a very interesting and believable storyline is what caught people eyes, and made the game a huge success. When a game sells well and receives a desired amount of fame, you make a sequel. And that’s what Ubisoft did. Assassins Creed II is set to be released November 17, 2009 in North America and November 20, 2009 in PAL regions. Ubisoft has already released a large amount of different footage and information about the game. More will be expected the closer we get to the release date.
There is a lot of discussion going around about the new game and its features, and most old Assassins Creed players are hungry to get to try this game out. Assassins Creed 2 was also a big thing in this years E3 where most of the new features where seen in action for the first time. The trailers and demos have got a lot of positive feedback and the game is truly one of the most anticipated games of 2009.
So what is so great about this sequel? You have new weapons, areas, characters and storyline additions, but there are also a lot more to this sequel than just that. Ubisoft has also made a lot greater changes to the sequel and little things like swimming are nice additions to the game play. Ezio, the new main character and a young nobleman who has taken over the role of an assassin will be able to use the canals as hiding places in one of the new areas in Italy, Venice. You can for example assassinate foes by dragging and drowning them into the water. Driving small boats in the canals will also be possible in this sequel and this can well be one of the main means of transportation within the game.
The game takes place in 1486, Italy during the Renaissance, which is 295 years after the first Assassins Creed. Like in Assassins Creed, historical figures will be featured in the game. The most interesting thing about the game is probably Leonardo Da Vinci’s (one of the historic figures) flying machine which Ezio will be able to ride at one point in the game. Leonardo Da Vinci happens to be a friend of Ezio and gifts him the machine. The flying is not totally open and free though since the machine will only stay airborne if Altaïr uses thermals from the fires that his friends have lit (in the first Assassins Creed). New mission types will also be introduced along with an adjusted health system which will give a more realistic and dynamic touch to the game play.
Blending into the crowd was one of the main elements of the game in the first game, and so it will continue to be one in the sequel too. This time, you can blend in with any crowd and not just specific groups of people. Some sorts of services can be hired within the game to aid game play. Pick pocketing is also possible, both ways meaning that Ezio can pickpocket enemies or become the victim himself. A notoriety system has been added meaning that the more missions you complete, the more notorious the character becomes. Infamy can be reduced by e.g. removing wanted posters of the city walls or by bribing.
Parkour mechanics have been improved in the second game along with a larger arsenal of weapons including halberds, axes, daggers and many similar middle age weapons. Since movement is a key role in the game, new mechanics will probably give more depth into the combat and the new weapons will spice it up even ore. As already mentioned, new cities such as Venice, Florence and Rome as well as the Tuscan countryside will be the game area of Assassins Creed 2. There may be one or two more areas but those are till now unknown of.
After looking at some of the videos released about the game, it looks like this will be a pretty successful sequel. Of course there are some unrevealed features of the game but it seems that they are not even necessary with the changes already announced. The game is improved alot from the first game and it’s no wonder people are eagerly waiting for the release. As a conclusion, Assassins Creed 2 offers you a totally new world with a enhanced and more enjoyable game play.
If you’re thinking about buying the game, it’s probably a pretty good investment. Especially if you have played and enjoyed Assassins Creed, number 2 will certainly be no worse. Some differences with the console versions and the pc version may be done, but the game should be as enjoyable on all three versions. It’s too early to say if the game will be good or not. It’s also too early to say will it be worth the 60$ that it will in estimate cost, but it’s really up to you. If you were impressed by the new features and additions, then you should get it. If you still want to learn more about the game, it’s easy to find the official pages from the internet and go read more.
