Conan Game

A review of the Conan game demo.

After reading a preview of this game in a magazine, it really didn’t sound like the game I would enjoy playing. The demo starts with a cut scene of the title character Conan and a woman who somewhat resembles an ugly horse. After exchanging words, she sets you the task of rescuing 3 crew members of a ship. So off you go.

The controls are ok although a lot of the time you are left tapping the x-button over and over (quick attack). A few things feel very un-natural about them too, like using the right analog stick to roll and using RB to pick up/use objects. Apart from these however, I got to grips with the controls pretty well.

After beating up a few bad guys I started to really enjoy playing this demo. The detail in the fighting is pretty damn good. Litres of blood from your enemies stain the wooden planks you walk across, if you knock of someone’s helmet it rolls about the ground and if you manage to chop off their heads they also roll around beneath you. This might make some people’s stomachs turn but I enjoyed it.

Finding the 3 prisoners horse-woman asked you to save is fairly simple. You are then told by her to get aboard the ship. On you plod to an elevator that previously wasn’t accessible and descend to find 3 slightly larger enemies waiting for you. After 3 or 4 attempts I couldn’t even kill one of these guys and eventually gave up. The demo started off good and it could’ve got better had I not got stuck. Worth downloading and giving it a try. I know I will be playing it again to get further.
