Dark Eldar Tactics I

New to dark eldar? Let me help.

The Dark Eldar are a race in the tabletop strategy game known as war hammer 40,000. they are the evil counterparts to the race Eldar, and are often described as space elves. The Dark Eldar are evil in every way. They torture souls just for the fun of it, and nothing is more pleasing to them than the agony of tortured souls

HQ Tactics

Archon

This is the most powerful unit in your army. One thing to remember is that if your archon dies, it is most likely that you will not win the game, sometimes you do, but it is rather rare. if your archon is footslogging, then put him in a full unit of warriors. if he is going to be aboard a raider, put him with 9 incubi. nothing is more powerful than 20+ power attacks on the charge. this unit can wipe out full marine squads in single turns.

Dracon

This unit is almost as strong as your archon, but cheaper, and has one less attack, initiative, WS and BS. I think that this unit is meant to be used in a smaller game, as she will definitely not survive without a shadow field. without a shadow field, put her in a squad of 20 warriors, and use this unit to outflank the enemy. Hopefully the prey will fall before they get their attacks back. With a shadow field, however, use this unit just like the Archon.

Haemunculus

I don’t have much experience with this unit, because it seems to be pretty weak, however, with some grotesques, this unit can be harsh and deadly, because grotesques automatically make the other unit fall back, but ill explain that later. make sure you equip your haemunculis with scissorhand, because poisoned attacks are better than non poisoned attacks. I love the stinger, as it makes the victim blow up and possibly kill others. i once took out 2 terminators with one shot. i don’t have much experience with destructors at all, so i wont get into that.

This advice seems rather spotty and terribly misleading. I have yet to see a high level competitive Dark Eldar list that used incubi, much less 10 of them. And while the Archon is a incredibly powerfull CC unit (shadowfield, combat drugs, tormentor helm, and punisher) it should hardly be the focus of the army. In many of my games, I have won without my archon ever getting out of the raider full of wyches he is in (just shoot the enemy to death!)

The haemunculi are a mid-range HQ, best used to bolster assualts by other squads. About the only load-out you see is scissor hands and destructor, sorry but the stinger is rather rubish.

For HQs in games 1500+ I recommend the above archon loadout + trophy rack, riding shotgun with a unit of wyches and a wyche dracite with a wyche retinue. This gives you to devastating CC units that can destroy almost any unit in the game (watch out for huge 20+ units though).

Sorry if this sounded harsh, but DE are a difficult army to play and an even harder army to play well.
