Don’t Blame Violent Video Games

If you are a boy yourself or your a parent and you have a son or you have a brother, whichever as long as you are close to him, chances are he plays violent video games. There have been killings ranging from one murder to a bloody massacre such as the columbine high school massacre. A prime activist in this subject is Jack Thompson.

Now lets start with Thompson. Jack Thompson is a anti-violent video game activist and a lawyer. It all started in 1997 when Heath High School shooting. The shooter Michael Carneal 3 students and injured 5 other students while they were praying. Thompson has had a long dispute with Rockstar Games, the creators of prominent violent video game series’s such as Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne and Bully. In 2003 he filed lawsuits against Rockstar Games and Take 2 Interactive for training 3 people to kill with video games. He also tried to prevent the sale of Grand Theft Auto IV and Bully. Now in my mind, I see Thompson nothing more than a man who seeks out money. As soon a male commits a homicide, SNAP JAck Thompson checsks if there’s a connection to video games. Jason Robida shot and killed a police officer and wounded his girlfriend and s you might expect, Jack Thompson was right onto the, hoping he could sue and make some cash.

 Another interesting point is that most violent games have a lot of swearing. Me personally, I’ve been using the F-Word since I was 10 and I didn’t even play games back then, nor did I watch movies with swearing. A long time ago, there was no such thing as a voilent video game. probably just tetris and those simple flash games. Back then all you could blame was TV, Radio and other things such as parental influences and peer pressure. So could you imagine a person filing a lawsuit against television and order it to be shut down? No, it’s ridiculous and would never happen. However, video games seem to be more prominent in being involved in lawsuits. This may be because you can control the players and choose what to do. Also, if you go on a random game site on the internet, most likely there are violent games and sexually explicit games.

The current world isn’t all sunshines and rainbows. It’s full of criminals, corrupt cops, serial killers, rapists and more. By playing games such as this, it will be easier to understand the world as it is now. I learned from games what things such as “protection rackets” and “extortion” are. There isn’t a negative impact of learning this unless I wanted to do these acts myself but I would never turn to a life of crime. Video games boost the economy which is also a positive impact.

Video games can actually benefit you by teaching you about the real world. All those people out there trying to sue game companies just want money. That’s how the world runs now, money this money that, don’t give me money? ok I’ll kill you! People should stop worrying about violent video games and start actually worrying about real problems such as global warming and the global food crisis.
