Fable 2 Guide: The Crucible Perfect Score

How to beat the Crucible within the set time limits.

Fable 2: The Crucible Perfect Score Guide

Basic requirements for the Crucible are fairly minimal. You will have to ensure that you have upgraded your character to some respectable levels within Skill and Strength (ensuring your Melee weapon can deal out some fair damage). At this point you may also want to purchase a gun which has a lot of shots per reload or one which reloads quickly for some of the larger rooms. You will also want to ensure that you have some Level 5 spells; namely Vortex and Shock/Fire. You may also want to purchase Time Control at Level 3 or 4 if you have the points to spare.

Round 1: Player vs. Beetles

[Target: 1 minute 45 seconds]

This round is very easy, especially in comparison to the later ones. All you will need to do is go to the centre of the room, charge up a Level 5 spell and unleash it every time a wave of enemies spawns. Any beetles which escapes the grasp of your spell you will be able to dispatch quickly with your melee weapon, which should probably be some kind of sword for speed.

Round 2: Player vs. Hobbes

[Target: 1 minute 50 seconds]

The same method as in Round 1 can be employed here. Going to the middle of the room and charging up Vortex before the enemies spawn is a sure fire way to kill the majority of the Hobbes. If there is any Hobbes which escape the Vortex then you can pick them off at range with your gun or enter the pack and use your melee weapon.

Round 3: Player vs. Hobbes

[Target: 2 minutes 25 seconds]

Despite the fact that there are more Hobbes in this room pretty much the same tactic can be employed. When your enemies begin to spawn you will want to charge up your Time Control to a level high enough to get you over to their spawn area. Once you’re in their area you will need to once again cast your Level 5 Vortex. Since this room is bigger you will also want to use your gun to shoot enemies that are out of your spells’ range. There is plenty of time in this round to get the job done.

Round 4: Player vs. Hollowmen

[Target: 2 minutes 30 seconds]

It’s the same old story with this round, with the exception that Vortex doesn’t do a great deal of damage to these enemies. I would therefore advise that you substitute Vortex for Flame as it despite it having a shorter duration it packs a greater punch against these enemies. A powerful sword will work fine, but you may want to consider switching to a heavier weapon to kill the Hollowmen which evade your spells.

Round 5: Player vs. Bandits

[Target: 2 minutes 10 seconds]

When you enter this room you will see a bridge directly ahead of you. In order to efficiently complete this level you should cast Time Control and move up onto that bridge just before the enemies spawn. Then you should cast the highest level Vortex that you have the chance to do before the enemies begin running around the room. Continue attacking with charged Flame attacks and your chosen melee weapon and the Bandits should prove very little challenge.

Round 6: Player vs. Assassins/Bandits

[Target: 2 minutes]

I personally found this level to be one of the hardest within The Crucible until I had devised a suitable strategy and even then it can be a bit “touch and go”. You will want to be in the centre of the room again for this level and you will initially want to cast Vortex too. There will be assassins that are on the edge of the room however which you cannot quickly reach. You will want to activate the trap switches to kill these enemies and also fire on them with your gun, possibly activating Time Control to make your life a little bit easier as regards to this.

Round 7: Player vs. Balverines

[Target: 2 minutes]

This is by far the easiest round in The Crucible. Despite this round being against one of the toughest enemies there are barely any of them and thus you can spend the start of the round charging up a Level 5 Vortex or Flame attack which will kill the “basic” Balverines instantly. Once you have cast your spell against the leader Balverine (white) you will want to hit it or shoot it a few times to finish it off. The time given is extremely generous in the case of this round. You have nothing to worry about.

Final Round: Player vs. Troll

[Target: 1 minute 50 seconds]

The first thing that is worth pointing out that in this round using Time Control has no effect on the actual time taken. Despite it slowing down the counter the time which you have used in Slow-Mo will be added on at the end.

On the contrary to what I have just said though, you will want to charge up a Level 3 Time Control and run around the back of the Troll. From there you should charge up a Level 5 Flame and let it hit the Troll. This should remove approximately half of its health, which serves as a great head start. After you have done this you will have to run and dive around the ring in order to avoid the Troll’s earthquake-style attacks. During this process you may want to attack some Hobbes with your melee weapon, killing them is not a necessity though.

Once the troll’s yellow weak spots reappear you will want to shoot one of them with your gun. This will damage the Troll and send it into attack mode. From there you must repeat the process until the Troll is no more and you can claim your prize; “The Chopper”. This is a legendary weapon with good damage and some fairly useful augments.
