Facebook Game Review: Hidden Chronicles
Zynga has a new game out on Facebook. Yep, another one. Unlike other games by Zynga, this one does not include harvesting or little animals in sweaters or unfortunate Halloween costumes. Hidden Chronicles exactly what it says it is-a hidden object game.
I don’t think Facebook needed one more hidden object game, there already being several popular ones such as Mystery Manor, but I have to say Zynga does it better. Set up like an old fashioned I Spy game, Hidden Chronicles is easy to understand and play. Like most such games you start off in a ‘Manor’ house and branch out from there. The way it differs from other like games is in the execution. Zynga’s version allows for more depth in the puzzles and more interaction with the screen, requiring players to move objects about or build objects or finish tasks, like lighting a candle. Again, this is very much like the popular Scholastic I Spy video games for kids, but with a more adult set up. I can’t say that the puzzles are hard so far, but it is a little fun and, again, more interactive than similar games on Facebook.
Like other Zynga games, this one plays better if you have ‘neighbors’ from your friend list. You can complete quests faster and get more points and energy by ‘visiting’ your neighbors, and you can send and receive gifts. I would caution not to over send those requests to those on your list who are not casual gamers. That gets annoying pretty darned fast and they will just block the application if not you.
Another little perk to it being a Zynga game is the promotion of it on Farmville, arguably the most popular game on the web. When you have reached level ten in Hidden Chronicles you will receive a bonus pack in Farmville containing ten unwithers. For those of you who play Farmville I am sure you are already logging on. For those of you who don’t, trust me, that’s a cool bonus pack.
All in all I give it three and a half stars out of five. Mostly because I get bored with hidden object games and there are already so many out there.
