Facebook Game Review: The Hunger Games Adventures

The book, the movie and now the Facebook Flash animation game. The Hunger Games is becoming a huge part of our pop culture, and is there any better way to celebrate that than wasting ten minutes playing a game that is nothing more than an advertisement? Well, you could read the book, but we both know that if you haven’t yet, you aren’t going to. I give you the game, or Funtactix and Lionsgate does.

Most Facebook games are designed to be fun, addictive, and hopefully to sell you stuff. The Hunger Games is no different in those aspects. Like Spartacus: Vengeance and Avenger’s Alliance on Facebook, this game borrows a lot from the movie. You start out as an orphan being helped through the game by Katniss, simply because Gale asked her to. Your avatar has a few choices, more than most games, but the ‘choices’ aren’t very different from one another and all the avatars look remarkably similar. Your avatar then goes over the fence into the forest where you find a bow and arrow and get to fight a vulture mutt. Like most games on Facebook every action costs energy from the depleting energy bar. You move about to a forest base camp to District 11, and to other places collecting things, selling things, harvesting things, fighting things, etc.

There really isn’t much to distinguish this game from any other game on Facebook. Its playable, but a bit of a let down as the interaction with the characters from the movie is so blah. It seems that they wasted an opportunity to really make this unique, like the book and the movie.

I give this three and a half stars, because it is playable, but just like a lot of games already out there.

Sounds like they could have made much more of this.
