It seems like the next generation of the Final Fantasy games has been in development for decades. Square Enix gave a vague release window for Final Fantasy XIII as the Spring of 2010. The game could have even been pushed back through the summer. Some gaming websites had the release date for June of 2010. Now the truth of the release date for Final Fantasy XIII finally comes out, and its a lot sooner than expected.

Mark your calendars for March 9, 2010. This is when the next Final Fantasy adventure will be brought to North American shores. Final Fantasy XIII will be released on both the Xbox 360, and for the Sony Playstation 3. The release dates for both systems will arrive on the exact same date. It wasn’t expected to be released this soon. It was aimed during the time of the second quarter of 2010. You can go ahead and get that pre order in now.

At the time of this writing, you can pre order Final Fantasy 13 on the net and sites are listing the release date as March 9, 2010. Its been nearly three years since a Final Fantasy game has seen a release for a Playstation system. During the holiday of 2006, Final Fantasy 12 was released for the Playstation 2. This would be the last Final Fantasy game to grace the PS2. After this game came out, fans couldn’t wait for the next one on the PS3.

This is unusual for a Final Fantasy game to come out during this time of year. It would have been so awesome if it could have come out for this Christmas, but its been delayed a few months for the North American release. Final Fantasy 12 came out during the holidays, and the other major Final Fantasy games were also released during the holiday seasons. Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy X and even Final Fantasy IX, all came out during the Christmas season. Final Fantasy 13 will make a departure and come out during the end of the winter season in March.

Its been a really long wait for fans of the Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy XIII was first shown at E3 in 2006, even before the release of Final Fantasy XII. For anyone who was disappointed with Final Fantasy XII, the same development team from Final Fantasy X and X-2, have also worked on XIII. The story and development of the game should flow just like the early Playstation 2 games that were created. Japan is lucky in that they first will get the game on December 17, 2009.
