Final Fantasy Dissidia

Review of yet another Final Fantasy Game for the PSP.

I recently got Final Fantasy Dissidia for the PSP.  This is a short breakdown of a review after playing it for only a few hours.

Graphics

I place a lot of stock in graphics, and unfortunately there is nothing really cutting edge about the graphics.  I would put them on the same level as the Final Fantasy Prequel, Crisis Core also for the PSP.  However, even though there is nothing new, the graphics are still pretty nice, and help you submerge yourself into the game world.  One particular part I liked was that each character had an ‘alternate’ look, and the best in my opinion was Cloud’s from FF7, because it was the costume he wore in Advent Child, which admittedly looks much cooler than what he wore in his original game.

Storyline

The Storyline really requires an acquired taste.  I can best describe it really as a trivial storyline between battle sequences.  It seems the final cut scene for each submission, is the exact same thing over and over again.  One drawing feature of the storyline is the fact that you get some dialog between your favorite characters such as cloud and Sephiroth and Tidus and Jecht.

Combat Engine

The combat engines adopts off of Crisis Core, and FF12.  It basically allows complete control of your character in space, along with the capability of releasing any move whenever you want to.  I have to agree that this system really adds a new dimension to RPG combat.  For those who do not like this style, can also relish in the combat because there is an alternate ‘menu’ combat mode to keep everyone happy.

Extras/Completion Items

There are a LOT of things to do in this game, everywhere from complicated storyboard sequences to accomplish, certain battle stats, and plenty of things to purchase for the game catalog such as other characters to play etc.

Overall, this game offers something for even people who are not fans of Final Fantasy.   In addition, it offers upwards of 40 to 50 hours of game play, not a bad deal for its price.
