Final Fantasy VII Ancient Forest Walkthrough

This article is for the original Sony Playstation video game Final Fantasy 7. In the game there are several different side quests that you can journey on. These FF7 side quests are not required to finish the game, however, you can gain extra stuff from the game if you decide to take the journey. Follow this Final Fantasy 7 Ancient Forest walkthrough here, if you’ve made the decision in taking this side quest.

The Ancient Forest isn’t simply a place you can discover by just walking up to it on the world map. Are you asking yourself “How do I find the Ancient Forest in Final Fantasy 7?” There are only two ways to access this area.

The first way to get to the Ancient Forest is by breeding a Mountain Chocobo. The more easy way is to find and defeat the Ultimate Weapon boss. After you defeat the Ultimate Weapon, this boss will cause a crater in the ground that will open up a brand new path. This new path will take you to the Ancient Forest.

Inside of the Ancient Forest, you can do a lot of manipulating with different items. You will be able to pick up different items, and also put items in places throughout the Ancient Forest. Now there are these little flowers that are sort of like venus fly traps. If you take a fly and put it inside of this flower, the flower closes up and you can use it to walk on. You will now be able to walk on top of the venus fly trap type flower. This doesn’t last forever. There is a time limit on how long you can walk on the flower. The fly will be eaten and the flower will no longer be closed. So keep this in mind while your are travelling through the FF7 Ancient Forest.

You can also do the same thing with frogs. You can take a frog and put it inside of one of the flowers, and you can use it to walk on. This too doesn’t last forever, you only have a limited amount of time to walk on it. When this time is up, the frog will come out and then you can’t walk on top of the flower anymore.

If you are on top of the flower when the frog is getting spitted out, you will be launched high into the air. The flies can be eaten by the flowers, and then will be gone forever. But you can use the frogs again and again.

There are other plants here that are bigger than this one. These plants can hurt you a lot, so you will want to avoid these bigger plants. If you walk past them they will give you some trouble. How can you stop these plants? You can use a Honeycomb and the plants will close up forever. Use these tips and they will help you make it through the Ancient Forest. Remember to make use of the Honeycombs on the large man eating plants.

Here are some specific strategies that you can use to survive the Ancient Forest.

Now inside of the first area of the Final Fantasy 7 Ancient Forest, you will see one frog and three flies. Now close to the top of your TV screen and towards the middle, you will see three of the venus fly trap type plants. Now use these three flies on the plants to create a bridge. The bridge is on the right side of the area. Now, near the big plant is an item called the Supershot ST. Be careful around the plant or you’ll be messed with. There will also be a Spring Gun Clip you get at the end of the path, before going to the second area.

Now when you are inside of the second area, there will be one of the huge man eating plants blocking your way. If you try to grab or touch the plant, you will simply hurt yourself because there is really nothing you can do with it. Inside this plant is a Materia. Now after you have been eaten alive, grab one of the flies, go to the spring tongue type creation and jump up and grab onto this. Now this spring tongue creation will send you flying to a ledge with two more venus fly trap type plants.

One of the plants is open, while the other one is closed. Use a fly on the plant and then go across. Once here, you will grab another spring tongue and fly to another area. You will notice a frog and two more venus type plants. Now take the frog, and put it in the venus fly trap plant that is on the left. Jump on here and wait until you are launched into the air. After you fly into the air, you will be taken to a place with a honeycomb. You can use this against the giant plant, and you will get the Slash All Materia.

Now that you’ve got the honeycomb, get that same frog again and place the frog in the other venus fly trap type plant. Get on it until you fly towards the right. Now keep going right and you will gain access to the third area of the Ancient Forest. This part of Final Fantasy 7 may be a little difficult, but this side quest is worth it.

At the start of the third area, you should see two venus fly trap plants that go to another spring tongue. Take two flies and use them on the plants, then grab onto the spring tongue. You will fly into the trees.

If you go left and down one of the trees in this area here, you will go back onto a ledge that is in the second area. Here you will get the item called the Minerva Band. Now go back to the third area and back up into the trees. Now go right and climb down the tree where there are two spring tongues beside it. If you jump on these spring tongues, you will get the Typhoon Materia. Do this before climbing all the way down the tree. Now go back and climb all the way down the tree after you get the Typhoon Materia.

Now you will see one of the big flowers that can eat you, and you should also see two flies. You are still in the third area of the Ancient Forest. To your right you will see two venus fly trap type plants. Use a fly to close up the plant that is open. Now use the two plants to gain access to the honeycomb. Now you can use this honeycomb to close the huge plant there in the third area, plus use a fly to close the other venus type plant on the left. Now look for the little tree with the hole in it. Grab a fly and put it close to the hole.

If you put the fly in the right place, in front of the tree with the hole in it, a frog will jump out of the hole and eat the fly. Put the frog inside of the venus type plant that is towards the right. Face your character to the right and then wait to be launched into the air. After you land in the next area, take the frog and put it in the other venus fly trap you see to the right. This is the same one you used to get to the honeycomb.

Stand on this venus type plant again, and face your character towards the direction going right. Follow this path and you will go inside of a cave. This is the fourth area of the Ancient Forest. Get the items inside of the cave, the elixir and apocalypse. Continue through the cave and you will go out of the Ancient Forest. This fourth area doesn’t have any puzzles or anything more you can do. You just exit out to the world map.

This completes the Ancient Forest walkthrough in Final Fantasy 7. FF7 can be purchased for the original Sony Playstation system in a three disc set.
