Farmville: Most Popular Game Ever?

While almost everyone could tell you what pong is, or tetris, they are not considered very popular anymore, at least in the terms of the amount of people who play them. So what really is the most popular game? One of the next generation console games like Halo or Call of Duty? 

Actually, in reality, the game that is the most popular doesn’t have to do with violence or amazing graphics. Farmville, which now has around 58 million players, is all about time. You are the owner of a virtual farm, and have to take care of animals, harvest trees and plant crops in order to make money and buy new items. Sound simple? It is. In reality it is probably the simplicity that makes the game so popular, as no skill is really required.

What keeps players coming back is the fact that the crops that they plant don’t take days or months to harvest, but rather a matter of hours, and if they aren’t harvested quick enough, they wither and die. Animals and trees don’t wither, but it is rumored that animals can run away if they aren’t harvested enough.

The fact that Farmville is only a beta build has helped the game become as popular as it has, because items can be added easily and quickly, and this allows users to look forward to new crops, decorations and buildings. All money that is made off of the game, according to Zynga, the developer, is donated to charity, making the game a good cause as well as addictive.
