If you’re reading this article, you’re probably addicted to an online game or facebook, and/or have read the aforementioned article. You know you’re addicted, and yet your addiction stops you from realizing it. You don’t want to get out of the addiction. You’re probably saying to yourself, “I’m just doing this for fun, what’s wrong with it?” And thus, you’re still stuck in your addiction, and you’re troubled to the extent of searching or clicking on a link that says, “How to get out of your Addiction” or something.

Don’t worry. Just follow these five easy steps to get out of your addiction. They’re easy, although you’re not going to like a few of them. But believe me, you’ll be thanking me later.

1. Stop doing things. If you’re in a MMORPG, you probably have an ambition and are doing something to achieve it. Well, just stop doing it for a while. After a few days, you’ll realize that what you were doing was stupid, repetitive and boring. Take a resolution of never doing what you were doing, ever again. Whenever you log on to the game, just chat with friends or something else equally minor and light. Or just watch what other people are doing and get into conversation with them.

2. Gradually minimize the time you spend online. Get yourself busy with some books or movies or anything you prefer, and slowly start reducing the time you spend on the game per day. For example, if you’re playing 6 hours a day, reduce  the time spent per day by 30 minutes for the next day, and so on. Be very strict with your timings. Don’t get carried away by the game. Step One is essential for this.

3. Lose all your prized possessions in the game. This may feel like being cruel on yourself, but believe me, it is essential in getting rid of your addiction. Whenever you start thinking about leaving the game, what stops you from doing so? Your possessions in the game. You think of all the hard work you’ve gone through to get them, and thus stop thinking about quitting. This can range from in-game coins or game points to valuable objects that are expensive. This could also be in the form of Experience that you’ve gained. Just donate them to somebody; hold a giveaway party and give them away. You’ll feel as if you’re doing something completely stupid, but trust me; you’ll feel better after you’ve done that. Now that you don’t have anything to lose, it becomes infinitely easier to de-addict yourself. The hard work you had done had already given you something as a reward: fun. The items you had were only evidence that you had a good time. Now you don’t need them.
