How to Configure Pcsx2 0.9.8
This article describes how to properly configure PCSX2 0.9.8, a PlayStation emulator to be able to run some of the commercial PS2 games on PC.
Configure PCSX2 0.9.8
Nowadays many of us know that it is possible to emulate some commercial PlayStation™ 2 games on PC. For this we need the emulator PCSX2 version 0.9.8. This is the latest version and can be downloaded from www.pcsx2.net. The most stable version until now is version 0.9.7 but the latest version can be able to emulate some new games on PC which never even booted in the previous versions. Moreover the plugin SPU2-X has been declared the recommended sound plugin. The latest version of this plugin adds in the reverb effects bringing an experience close to the PlayStation 2 audio.
I have played the high quality Smackdown Vs Raw series from 2009 to 2011 using PCSX2 and the latest versions of the emulator are adding in some huge tweaks to stun us. I have said much in my previous article about configuring version 0.9.6, so I will not waste time here. Let’s get on with the configuring process.
Before I do so, I would like to tell you that you should have a dedicated graphics card with abundant memory (at least 512MB, 1GB recommended). For those of you who don’t know, graphics cards nowadays contain a Graphics Processor which handles all the graphics related processing like texture, environment loading and final scene rendering, etc. leaving the total processor to focus on the game engine. It is better to have a NVIDIA GPU rather than any other. It’s worth the cost, as you’ll find out while using it. The other thing required is the RAM. At least 2GB will provide a decent performance. You’ll need at least a Core 2 Duo 2.66 Ghz processor.
1. Download PCSX2 0.9.8 from www.pcsx2.net
2. Obtain the original PS2 bios files from your PS2 or download from www.megaupload.com. Perform a Google Search on “PCSX2 bios download”. Don’t worry about what bios files you get, because all of them are same. This includes Japan, USA and Europe bios files with v01.60 and v02.00.
3. Install PCSX2 and put the bios files into C:PCSX2 0.9.8bios
