The Legend Of Zelda Link’s Awakening DX is a little different. In the other Legend Of Zelda games, you are not required to get a key to go inside of the first dungeon. For you to get in the first level, you have to have the item called the Tail Key. If you’ve got the Magic Powder, you can now journey to get this key. If you need help finding the Magic Powder or the Sleepy Mushroom, check out previous articles to find these other items.

From the start of the beginning of Legend Of Zelda Link’s Awakening, go left for two screens. You will see the well that you can jump into, plus the brown path that is leading north. Now go into the Mysterious Forest and go as far north as you can. Now take the path towards the very top of the screen that is going to the east. Now go north for one screen and you should see a huge tree with a raccoon. If you did some exploring when searching for the Sleepy Mushroom, you might of ran into this guy before.

Don’t talk to the raccoon right now, he will curse you into an endless maze forest if you talk to him. Take out your magic powder and sprinkle some on the raccoon. Now the raccoon will magically change back into Tarin. Tarin was turned into an animal after he ate a mushroom in the forest. Now that he is changed back to normal he won’t be able to send you into an endless maze again. Now go one screen north and you’ll find what you’re looking for. There is no need to do anything else on this screen but open the treasure chest.

Open the treasure chest on this next screen and you will receive the Tail Key. This key will open up the door to the first dungeon, the Tail Cave. If you listened to the wise owl talking to you earlier, he revealed that you need to use the key south of the Mabe Village. This Nintendo game is a little different in that you normally don’t need a key to open up the first dungeon in a Legend Of Zelda game. But you do in Link’s Awakening.

This is how you get the Tail Key in Legend Of Zelda Link’s Awakening DX for the Gameboy Color. There was also a black and white version released earlier for the original Nintendo Gameboy system.
